This Wild Life in Concert

Never underestimate the waves two guys with guitars can make. Though This Wild Life originally formed in 2010 as a pop-punk group, singer-songwriters Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso quickly realized they worked better as an acoustic duo, so they scaled it back and cut away from the rest of their colleagues. Coming out of Long Beach, California, the passionate rockers would all but blow up in 2013, when they uploaded a cover of metalcore heroes Bring Me the Horizon's "Sleepwalking" to their YouTube channel; Bring Me the Horizon themselves liked the cover, and the rest was history. This Wild Life signed to Epitaph Records (the same label that gave BMTH their start in the U.S.) shortly after, releasing the acclaimed ‘Clouded,' which was full of intimate and vibrant tunes reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie's and American Football's quieter songs. Produced by Copeland's Aaron Marsh—a significant boon for the band's cred—'Clouded' led to the band being featured on the Alternative Press' "100 Bands You Need to Know in 2014" list. In 2018, This Wild Life released their buoyant third LP, ‘Petaluma,' a solid step forward for the group toward their emo ideals.

This Wild Life's journey has been laden with numerous great performances and impressive tours—their live shows wrangle their music's essence into a perfect (and perfectly intimate) experience. Right off the bat, they were booked at Vans Warped Tour 2011, going on to perform at the event numerous times thereafter. In 2014, they headlined their first U.K. tour, while later that year they gave performances in Australia for the first time, supporting Jonny Craig. Additionally, they gained some worldwide exposure with their arresting performance of "Roots and Branches" on Season 10 of "The Bachelorette." In 2015 and 2018, they toured with rock group Mayday Parade.

  • This Wild Life is the best!

by TWL fan on 11/8/23The Regent Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This Wild Life was fantastic - their music is great and they also put on a terrific show. What I like most about them is that their music is consistently good, so I don't have to worry about going to the concert and only hearing songs I don't like. Unfortunately the sound system wasn't great, but it was good enough. I also really appreciated that the venue offered ADA accommodations. The opening bands ranged from okay to quite good (not necessarily in that order). In total, getting 4 or 5 hours of live music ranging from okay to fabulous was an outstanding value for the cost of the tickets.

This Wild life is my favorite band but I also have venue anxiety and was nervous about being able to enjoy the experience. The staff is very organized and the venue is beautifully set up and balanced. Over all a great experience!

  • The band was awesome, venue was good, sound quality was meh

by TWL fan on 1/14/20The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 5 out of 5

I'm giving this show 5 stars because the band is awesome (great music and gives an energetic and intimate performance). I also liked the venue. Drinks were strong and unbelievably cheap and the staff were all very nice. Show was sold out and since we didn't feel like standing up all night being squished between people, we inquired about the VIP seats. Got them for $30 each (instead of the usual $50 charged in advance), which was well worth it. Private bar, private bathrooms, good view, and sitting down in an area with almost no people. My only complaint about the entire experience is that the sound system wasn't adequate for the volume (even though the music wasn't overly loud, at least in the VIP lounge), so the sound got distorted and it was also harder to hear the singing. A shame because the music was so great and the singer's voice is really good when you could hear it properly. But overall, one of the best concerts I've attended.
