The Zappa Band in Concert
"The Zappa Band" is composed primarily of former ZAPPA alumni. The touring unit is: Ray White (lead vocals, guitar), Mike Keneally (guitar, keys, vocals), Scott Thunes (bassist) and Robert Martin (keyboards, sax, vocals). Also joining are ZPZ alums Jamie Kime (guitar) and ZAPPA archivist Joe "Vaultmeister" Travers (drums, vocals). The band will be performing a strong mix of Zappa classics along with new and rare Zappa compositions. This is the ultimate Zappa alumni band in partnership the Zappa Trust. If you are a Zappa then you will love the care, craftsmanship, and virtuosity that they perform his music. Even for the non fan you will be blown away by the musicianship with which they play. I've seen this band 3 times in the last year and they continue to expand the songs they cover. My ONLY complaint is that they don't do MORE SHOWS!!! I saw Frank and this is the closest you will come to reliving that experience!!! Would love to see them do Ms PINKY!!!
The band is as good as any Zappa Band at any time ever! Mike Keneally has taken the reigns and taken the band to the top of the mountain. Each member is giant on their respective instrument . A must see for any music fan.
My friend and I (Zappa fans since Freak Out!) both had a great time because, even though we didn’t know many Zappa songs they played, the band’s talent made sure Frank’s songs were played spot-on! Next time they play (hopefully there again!), we will go again, and another friend also wants to see them!
What can I say. These guys are the real deal. They know the songs. They know Frank. It was a fantastic show. I went with my son that wasn’t alive when these songs were created, but over time by osmosis he began to understand and love this music and taught himself to play it. Needless to say, we both had a great time watching the show. Thank you all for a wonderful evening!
The show was so short there is not much to write about. Music was just ok and the sound was really bad. I give 3 stars because they are talented musicians and it takes courage to be on stage in front of an audience but nothing stood out or was memorable and for 60$ I was extremely disappointing.
These are superb players delivering a panoply of intricate Zappa compositions with precision and humor. They showed how a band can be tight and loose at the same time. Wonderful rapport with the audience and with each other; provocative set list; world class musicianship.
Saw them at The Baked Potato with Guest Ruth Underwood. Great show!
