About

The Used in Concert

Bursting onto the scene with the tense crunch of post-hardcore guitars and singer Bert McCracken's piercing shriek in the early aughts, The Used were stalwarts of the "screamo" sub-genre, drawing comparisons to contemporaries in Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance. Always a formidable live act, The Used are as closely aligned with the hard rock acts of the 80s as they are with their post-hardcore brethren, with vocalist McCracken lending his plaintive howl to his bandmates' razor-sharp maelstrom and a full battery of strobe lights. Their latest full-length album Vulnerable featured more overly theatrical flourishes and led with the single "I Come Alive." They supported the album with the Vulnerable Tour 2012 and reissued the album as a two-disc set that included B-sides and rarities, called Vulnerable (II) in March 2013.

The Used are unlikely exports of Orem, Utah, a place not known for hard rock. That didn't stop guitarist Quinn Allman, bassist Jepth Howard, drummer Branden Steineckert and McCracken from playing the local clubs before touring to support their 2002 self-titled debut. Their reputation as a live act saw them punch their ticket for coveted spots on the Warped Tour and Ozzfest. 2004's In Love and Death, which peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Top 200, announced their arrival to the big leagues, spawning singles, "Take it Away," "All That I've Got" and "I Caught Fire." In 2006, the band replaced longtime drummer Branden Steineckert with Dan Whiteside and released their fifth album Vulnerable through their own label, Dental Records. The band embarked on a series of concerts to support the album that summer. The Used released an EP of new material titled The Ocean of the Sky the following summer. Currently, the band is rumored to be going on tour in 2014, but no official announcements have been made.

The Used are touring on the Rockstar Energy Drink DISRUPT Festival in 2019. The touring festival features unique lineups in each city, including The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41, The Story So Far, Atreyu, Sleeping With Sirens, Andy Black, and more.

I Can Die Happy Now That I've Seen The Used!!

by DeadGirlx on 7/13/09Barrymore Theatre - Madison

After Waiting Years To See The Used, They Did Not Disappoint! They Had The Best Live Set That I've Ever Seen. Fans Of The Used Are Amazing, They Make The Concert Even Better By Being Die Hard Fans. A Small Concert Venue Changes The Atmosphere When Everyone Is There For The Same Reason, Unlike Large Concert Halls. Where A Ton Of People Are There But Are There For Different Reasons And Bands. What I'm Trying To Say It Was More Personal. Another Thing Was How Much They Love There Fans. They Had Security Of Course, But They Were Willing To Sign Autographs, Take Pictures, And Talk To Fans. Most Bands Don't Do That Any More, Unless You Buy Special Passes, or They're Getting Payed For It. Overall The Best Concert EVER!!! :D

The Used could have been better!

by EGIrene on 7/12/09Barrymore Theatre - Madison

The Used has been my favorite band for about 8 yrs, and that was the first time I got to see them. They put on an excellent show, don't get me wrong. But to me and my friends I went with, the set list wasn't nearly long enough, and they didn't even play their best songs! I would go again any day, I was just disappointed in the set list, and that makes a show right?

    The Used? yawn.

by ZeroLegacy on 7/11/09Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

The Used played a lot of songs that I wanted to hear from their previous albums. Unfortunately Bert can no longer scream and now their music is lacking a huge part of what made them good. His amazing ability to go from singing to screaming and back without taking a stop or a break (usually you need a pause to change the sound thats coming out of your throat from musically singing to cutting scream and vice versa) added an amount of depth to the music. It gave the music a broader spectrum of emotion and really emphasizes the pain of lost love. Without that it just seemed like some other band covering their songs. The other bands that played sounded like crap except for The Storied Life. Some really interesting sounds, but somewhat flat vocals.

    A pretty okay event

by Aciddwolf on 7/11/09Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

I felt that the starting bands were only okay, personally. The sound was a little messed up, and it sounded like all of the amplifiers settings may have been too loud for the venue, which made it kind of hard to hear the vocals for any of the bands, and you could hear the whines of the instruments (guitar). It was, however, an unforgettable experience. My friend and I now share custody of a broken The Used -Signed- drumstick, and we got to stand up front, against the barricades! I have gone to the Orbit Room once in the past, but have never gotten to see The Used. I think that it would have been better had the bands been more prepared for a smaller venue, however, it was still really good!
