About

After 25 years of gigs in venues all over the world, from the Village Hall to the Royal Albert Hall, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain comes to the Arts Centre for the very first time.
Bringing only their ‘bonsai guitars', and the belief that all musical genres are available for reinterpretation (as long they are played on the uke!), the Ukulele Orchestra does away with drums, piano, backing tracks, pitch shifters and electronic trickery. With a virtuosic collision of raw post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies - from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Redding and Spaghetti Western soundtracks - the Orchestra is routinely met with standing ovations.
Modern exercise in minimal art? Or a rabble-rousing music hall/stadium rock experience? Either way, you'll never think about music in the same way.

Took 2 3/4 houra to get there from Connecticut and 1 1/2 hours to get back. Not worth a 4 1/4 round trip althougy we enjoyed it. Manhattan venue would have been better. Musicianship first class but slightly "tired" feel to the performance as if they had done it just too many times. And the Swedish/Norwegain jokes were not very appropriate - change them up for Wisconsin or Canada for USA.

Outstanding - exceptional - fun - funny - Uke On!

What a wonderful evening! The layering of ukulele and voices was delightful and inspirational. The understated showmanship was appreciated and thoroughly entertaining. We liked the way the individual styles of each of the performer was featured/shared throughout the evening. Convocation Hall in Toronto was the perfect concert venue... with fabulous acoustics and not a bad seat in the house.

    The Ukes are Way Cool!

The Ukelele Orchestra plays a good mix of music in addition to a wide variety of ukeleles (i.e. from the very small to the deep bass models), all combined with witty British humor and varied singing vocals from each member of the group. They mix a little classical, folk, rock, and modern tunes in their set. The only complaint as to why I would give them 4 stars instead of 5, is that during their humorous monologues, they did not always speak directly into the microphones and also tended to speak before the crowd quieted down from applause; as a result, some of their humorous comments were lost as we tried to pick them up midway through (a bit garbled).
