The show was better than I expected. It was four hrs long. The fifth demention were very good.
We have been to at least 10 of these concerts and have always enjoyed them. Starting with the floor seating; seats were ganged together with no space between them (should use ganging brackets about 2" long) much too close. Also, seats were placed too close to other rows. If someone wanted to leave a row the seat occupants had to stand and push their seat up and still be crowded. The venue had lots of vacant floor space to accommodate a comfortable seating arrangement. Master of Ceremonies - had absolutely no personality, nothing to say about each group as they took the stage and was not in control of concert timing etc.. The Tee Tones were brought on stage twice while the musicians changed instruments. They ran overtime causing the concert to run nearly 4 hrs, much too long. The other singing groups were good. We hope to attend more concerts, please take my recommendations to heart. Thank you
Under sold told it all. Groups did their own versions of songs, some we didn't even recognize till part way through. 50s concert should be 50s songs as they were, not newly invented versions!! People were constantly walking out! Waited for the 5th demensions, what a disappointment, we left as they distroyed my favorite 50s song!! The band, Animal House, in the park was fantastic. They could put together a better 50s concert that went on for 4 hours. I must say the lead singer, Sonny Turner was great and did his 50s-60s songs in theiri original versions. Hire Animal House for next year!!!
There were 4 performances. One group were The Tymes and another acepella group was The Tee Tones who were not that good at all. The lead singer from The Platters was very good as well as the last act which were 5th Dimension. However, The 5th Dimension is not Doo Wop, they are a 60s-70s group. Many of the people left early before the last act. I do hope they improve next year. They can have The Dubs, The Flamingos and even Jerry Lee Lewis if they can spare the money to pay them.
The sound board controllers were having issues trying to balance the singers microphones which was a problem for the audience. Two of the groups sounded great when they sang their songs but insisted on doing half of their set doing covers. The high light of the evening was without a doubt Sony Turner.
Great entertainers, but the show went too long. Start at 7:00 PM and end at 10:00 PM. Show was light on 50's music.
