THE SUFFERS IN CONCERT:
Gulf Coast soul band The Suffers lights up the stage with a red-hot mix of vintage R&B and funk that showcases the powerful pipes of modern day diva Kam Franklin. Buzzfeed called the Houston-based outfit one of “25 New Artists You Need in Your Life in 2015”, and it’s easy to see why as the dynamic Franklin whispers, croons, and belts her way through the group’s jazz and reggae-influenced songs. At their live shows The Suffers’ 10 members sound off roll call-style before launching into their set, and their confident, unhurried performances allow time for each instrument -- trumpet, trombone, sax, organ, bass, guitar, percussion, and drums – to shine. Holding it all together is Franklin, a down-to-earth performer with a sultry, soulful voice that perfectly matches the virtuosic musicianship on display every time The Suffers perform.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The Suffers was formed in Houston, TX in 2011 by bassist Adam Castaneda and keyboardist Pat Kelly. The two originally envisioned the project as a reggae jam band, but after teaming up with a crew of virtuoso musicians and singer Kam Franklin they fell into a neo-soul groove. The band’s razor-sharp musicianship and dynamic live shows helped build a strong local fanbase, and before long they were raking in praise and awards from the Texas press. Hometown fame soon gave way to national acclaim, and in 2013 the The Suffers released their debut EP Slow it Down b/w Step Aside. They followed up in 2014 with the EP Make Some Room, which they supported with high-profile performances at SXSW and the Late Show with David Letterman. On tour The Suffers get ticket buyers begging for more, drumming up big expectations for their full-length debut album and future shows.

I really enjoyed the show! The lead vocalist and band gave a super performance. Lots of energy and talent! The after show meet & greet was wonderful. They signed autographs and took pics. Very down to earth and appreciative to be in San Antonio!
David Letterman was absolutely right! If you love music and/or you love Houston, you need to see The Suffers!
Excellent show. They are amazing and I am proud to say they are from Houston. It was obvious they were playing for a hometown crowd.
Great concert. Music was outstanding. Connected with the audience and made one feel special
This band is just amazing. Great energy, fantastic original songs, and fun, fun, fun! I would go back to every concert they play when they are in town.
The Suffers never disappoint. It was great to see them in Houston again after being on Tour all year. Energy, soul & Houston love.
The suffers were amazing! They debuted a few new tracks off their new album coming out soon! The Stage was not big enoughfor all that talent on the stage. They stopped for the countdown to the new year, then picked up at the same place like they never stopped! The openi"ng acts were great, the atmosphere was great, the new years Kiss was great. Overall, An amazing show. Did not disappoint.
Just back from a tour that took them from one side of the country to the other, The Suffer's took to the stage with the kind of enthusiasm worthy of such a homecoming. They've been on the road for a bit more than four months and boy does it show. You can see that the tour gave them the opportunity to fine tune their show, the displayed the kind of poise and polish that only comes after such a lengthy tour. It was great to see that they are still growing and developing as artists. I can't wait till the next show.
