About

THE SONS OF THE PIONEERS IN CONCERT:

The Sons of the Pioneers have been around for a long time, and they bring a heaping helping of history and tradition to every stage they grace with their time-honored sound. At their nostalgic live shows the dozen or so members conjure up the sounds of the great American West as if not a day had passed, nailing their multi-part harmonies with the effortless ease and style of the legendary cowboys they sing about. Taking the stage in black jeans and Stetson hats, the Sons deliver tried and true classics like “Cool Water” and “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” with the same authentic twang that has been the group’s signature for the past 80 years. From their vintage style to their razor-sharp harmonies, The Sons of the Pioneers treat fans to a bit of wild west time travel every time they perform their extensive catalog of beloved country vocal hits.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Sons of the Pioneers was formed by the one and only Roy Rogers, aka Leonard Slye, in the early ‘30s. The group’s old-time sound became popular with radio audiences around the country, and in 1934 they signed to the newly founded Decca label. That same year they recorded “Tumbling Tumbleweeds”, an enduring hit that remains a staple of their live sets today. By the late ‘30s the Sons were regularly appearing in films and TV series, but Roy Rogers’ rising profile as an actor caused him to leave the band soon after. His relationship with the group remained strong, however, and the Sons continued to appear as supporting players in many of Rogers’ highly popular movies. In the early ‘70s, longtime members and primary songwriters Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer were both inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 1976 the Sons of the Pioneers joined the Country Music Hall of Fame. Despite the passing of Nolan and Spencer, the group has maintained an active lineup in the ensuing decades, keeping tradition alive with a rotating lineup of talented musicians who continue to enhance the group’s impressive legacy every time they tour.
