    Really Enjoyed It!

by InPerson on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and are very glad we went. As a fan of CS Lewis I thought the Screwtape Letters was accurately capture and presented in a very compelling way. For those not familiar with the book the performance might be a bit confusing at first as it jumps right into the letter dialogs pretty quickly.

    Screwtape Letters

by Baboo3 on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

The production, acting, staging and lighting were first class. Audio, on the other hand, was unacceptable. One person in our party said they caught about half of what was said.

    Screwtape is great

by RaleighDCG on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

This was a remarkable play. Essentially a one-man performance (with the skillful, mostly non-vocal help of a very agile secretary demon), it is incredible to realize that Max McLean virtually recited an entire book! At no point was it dull or boring. It throbbed with energy and satiric humor, and brought new insight into the devil's view of the human race.

    great performance

What a great performance, I could not believe how quickly the time went. It was funny, and as relevant today as when it was written by CS Lewis.

    Screwtape Letters

by ntjones on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

The characters Uncle Screwtape and his assistance did a marvelous job. There was alot to remember in a monologue. Alot of it came directly from book, which was good. And brought a better understanding for me. The book was tedious for me at times, and seeing it on stage simplified it for me. Good play.

Great way to digest CS Lewis

by kmfrwf on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

Great highlights of CS Lewis' work, Screwtape Letters. Delivered in an engaging matter, the story moves along at a good pace and leaves you anticipating the next exchange between Wormwood & Screwtape. It is incredible that Max is able to deliver two shows of this heavy dialog in one night. Truly enjoyed this.

    Am I getting deaf?

by Charlesn on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

The staging and lighting were outstanding. I'm sure the dialogue was right on, but neither my wife nor I could understand/hear what was being said. It was, unfortunately, a waste of money for us. Are there others who had the problem or was it just us? We had really looked forward to this.

    Great performance...great material

by rjacket on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

This was a show that focused totally on the dialogue and the acting. The material is very thought provoking and made you pay attention to the nuances in the material. The acting (only one main player) was very good also.

    Screwtape Review

by EnemyAgent1 on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

Max McLean is incredible! Elise Girardin is captivating. The Progress Energy Center is welcoming - hostess/ticket taker at entrance to Section H (4:00 p.m. production) was personable. Everything came together for a stimulating, thought-provoking, wittty, wonderful evening! An old saying but apropos - if Screwtape is in your town, run don't walk to spend an evening with Max McLean; he did CS Lewis proud!

It was refreshing to attend a performance with a Christian themer. The play was very close to the letter and spirit of the book.

C.S. Lewis' words are as relative to today's world as it was when he wrote them during Worlld War II. With a spare set, the play allows the brilliant words to shine. Max was an amazing Screwtape, and his mastery of the script- all words entirely his character's, was impressive. I can't wait to see the next production from this team.

    High Art!

by Toadpipe01 on 11/8/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - Raleigh

This was a true theatrical feat! Wonderful delivery and not a minute was dull... I was left wanting more and would easily go again. HIghly recommended if you like true THEATRE ARTS, and enjoy clever and ironic delivery for such an interesting topic, such as Hell and its clutches on mankind:)

A great adaption of a C.S Lewis classic. It engages you to think about the content of the "letters".
