BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The Red Paintings was formed in Geelong, Australia in 2000 by Trash McSweeney, a multi-talented performer who heads up all of the group’s musical and staging concepts. The band spent their early days performing in battle of the bands showcases, but didn’t really gain much traction until McSweeney relocated to Brisbane and put together a new lineup. There, The Red Paintings’ experimental sound and creative live shows started to generate significant buzz, leading to extensive media coverage and high- profile festival dates around the country. Following several independently released EPs the group garnered critical acclaim with their 2004 live album The Virgin Mary Australian Tour Acoustic/Strings Album. Their 2005 EP Walls and 2006 EP Destroy The Robots were equally successful, receiving heavy airplay on Australian radio and landing the band on tour with Mogwai and Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls. The band continued to release popular EPs and tour the world throughout the late ‘00s while also raising funds for their full-length debut album, which arrived in 2013 in the form of The Revolution is Never Coming. The album was a critical masterstroke, earning praise for its wild mix of genres and uncompromising experimentation. Since then the band has continued to do what they do best, bringing their highly imaginative and participatory live show to fans around the world on tour.
