    Great Show!

by Theatre Lover on 3/4/22Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

We saw this play in Miami in late February. This one person show was funny, touching, insightful, well-written and well-performed. While the playwright’s experiences as a Dominican-American were the drivers of the play, it spoke to universal experiences. We highly recommend it.

    Play lacked cohesion and sequence

by Ctr on 2/28/22Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

This play is about a single actor discussing some aspects of Porfirio Rubirrosa as an elite Dominican playboy. He attempts to run an analogue story about his personal origin as a Dominican and the challenges of race in society. The play lacks cohesion and his story gets lost. He uses some Video material that lacks luster and effectiveness . His narrative is interrupted by music from Drake and he encourages the public to dance. However, None of this helps with the play as there is no sense with the story. As he slowly puts on a tuxedo during the play, we as audience do not get to finish his story nor to learn what is the significance of his comparison. He could have done better by narrating facts of Ruby’s Life and highlighting the transformation and impact that his race had on his elite life.
