    Charlie's review

by Charlie on 4/29/23North Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Family craziness, racial overtones and fantastic music played by the actors themselves, made for a thought provoking, magical night. Highly enjoyable.

Music was a lot of fun and it was hard not to clap along, but my feet were tapping. The story was engaging and thought provoking. Acting was professional and engaging and all of them are excellent musicians. A great show.

    Outstanding Music and Timely Message

by Georgia on 4/25/23North Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

My husband nd I thoroughly enjoyed both the music and the message inherent in the show, The Porch on Windy Hill. A top-notch ensemble of actor musicians make this production outstanding. The audience is invited to sing along, if you're so inclined. You're drawn in especially to the many folk songs in the show, many of which are lively and familiar, and, as an added bonus, you'll learn a bit about the history of this component of American music. Additionally, the message, which unfolds toward the end of the first act and continues in strength to the end of the production, hits home at many levels relative to discrimination and cruelty suffered by different groups of people within our American culture.
