    The Play That Went Wrong

by AH68 on 9/18/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

I thought the play was hilarious and so did the friend that attended with me. The whole audience was laughing out loud. The actors were excellent and I thought the staging was fabulous and must have been very difficult and complex to accomplish.

The play that goes wrong was hilarious. I laughed so hard I cried and I think I snorted a time or two. The actors were all very good. I could see this play again and laugh just as much.

    Genuinely Funny

by ScottMcD on 9/18/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

I was delighted by the show. There was incessant good natured humor at no ones expense. It was as charming as it was funny. A rare experience these days in the theatre. I even returned the second night with my 14 year old son who said the show was “hilarious, well worth the trip”.

Everything is right with The Play That Goes Wrong!

by Lexshowfan on 9/18/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

If you want to laugh until you almost pee, this is the show for you. And if you can, get seats either on the floor or the first balcony, so you can catch the bits that happen before the show actually starts, too. But if you end up sitting in the cheap seats, like we did, you'll still enjoy it because the comedy isn't exactly subtle. Don't miss this show. And it's appropriate for kids (we took a 9YO boy, who loved it.) For a taste of what it's like, look for "Peter Pan Goes Wrong" from the BBC on Youtube. If you like that, you'll love this too. Best of the cast is Ned Noyes, who plays Cecil/Arthur. Everything he does is a gem.

    Play Goes Right Going Wrong

by ClydeFitch on 9/18/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Farce is hard to play. Amateurs rarely get it right. Seasoned, talented, disciplined professionals know it is hard work. And the National Touring Company of The Play That Goes Wrong gets it all right, every grimace, pratfall, humiliation, and surprise. What a joy to see this fine ensemble, so very well directed, at work and at play. The audience never stopped laughing because the actors never for a moment let go of their to-the-bone silliness, and the standing ovation, which can sometimes seem obligatory on the road, a show of gratitude for any form of manna in the wilderness, was spontaneous and full-throated. Bravo, tutti.

The play that went wrong, but rather well

by NY2KY on 9/17/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The Play That Goes Wrong (Touring) is basically a play that has just about every possible aspect of the production go comically wrong. That's a subtle trick; it's very easy to fall into cliches or to have the play simply seem to be performed poorly. Although some of it was very predictable as traditional British comedy bits (reminiscent of Faulty Towers), the show held more than a few surprises and was performed flawlessly with great precision. That precision was a necessity given how many parts of the set could otherwise have caused the actors real harm -- it's a much more physically demanding play for the actors than one might have expected. In any case, mostly it was a lot of fun, and it fit the Opera House venue really well; I don't think it would work as well in a larger or less-traditional-looking venue. Strongly recommended.
