    Amazing beyond words

    by Genie57 on 7/21/14the Mann - Philadelphia

I bought tickets to Gladiator Live for my brother-in-law's birthday. He and my sister said this was the best live show they've ever seen, topping any concert, show or sporting event. The movie was shown in its entirety & the Philadelphia Orchestra played from the opening credits all the way through the final credit.

Great venue, great concept with the live musical score. Only downside, not critical, lawn viewing could use a bigger screen.b

    Gladiator LIVE

by LDWBautista on 7/21/14the Mann - Philadelphia

"I have seen Gladiator a ton of times but even with it's five Academy Awards I have never seen it like this! Last night at The Mann Music Center I got a chance to have a film experience like no other I've ever had. "Gladiator" on the big screen with the epic score by Hans Zimmer performed live by The Philadelphia Orchestra. From the first movement of the conductors baton I was amazed and transported deeper into the world created my Ridley Scott than I ever had been before. To the point I really don't think I'll ever be able to watch this film again without the orchestra backing it up! They made it bigger, I felt the moods much deeper than before, It gets no better than this folks! Matter of fact the only way It could get any better than this is if the had The Philadelphia Orchestra play at first run Imax screening of films with Hans Zimmer's scores. Now that would be epic cinema!!" ~ L.D.W. Bautista

Great music by the Philadelphia Orchestra

    by bhd310 on 6/30/14the Mann - Philadelphia

The performance was outstanding! The orchestra did an amazing job, as did the choir and soloists. They did a great job on a difficult piece of music, made even more challenging by the outdoor setting and the need for a good bablance in amplification. Would also recommend pre-concert dinner at Crescendo: great buffet and terrific view!

It was Beethoven's 9th! Is there really anything else to say? You must experience this at least once in your lifetime. It is bungie jumping for your senses.

The Philadelphia Orchestra -- Best in the World!

by Rubenesqueme on 6/30/14the Mann - Philadelphia

Took my 13 year old grandson to the concert. I believe he enjoyed it almost as much as I did. Gorgeous weather, beautiful night. Birds were a little noisy but, overall a wonderful experience.

    Beethoven's 9th

    by Shazaam61 on 6/30/14the Mann - Philadelphia

The first half was very good but the 2nd half, which was Beethoven's 9th, was remarkable. It really made you feel like you have witnessed something that would be hard to repeat.

    Beethooven would have been proud!

by VeeBe on 6/30/14the Mann - Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra must be experienced in person to feel the emotion of the music, hear the talent of the musicians and fully understand how the composer, in this case Beethoven wanted his music to be heard. There is no CD or second hand description that can accurately relate the experience of being in the audience when the orchestra plays. Do not think you know what a concert is, until you make the effort to be apart of an evening as an audience member. You will be among hundreds of other music lovers who have made the choice to attend a Philharmonic concert. Do not hesitate. Get to the next performance and learn for yourself what thousands already know. The reason The Philadelphia Philharmonic is considered among the worlds best orchestras!

    Philadelphia Orchestra did Beethoven justice...

by NettieLovesBeethoven on 6/30/14the Mann - Philadelphia

Amazing show, I am so glad I decided to go at the last minute. Purchased a ticket the morning of the show and still was able to obtain a seat in Orchestra B, Left, Row G, Seat 73. A bit off center but the sound was still truly incredible. This is my favorite symphony of Beethoven's and the Philadelphia Orchestra did the piece justice. (Wholly confusing were the people playing on their phones during the performance. I personally don't understand why you would tarnish the experience with your Facebook updates... however to each their own I suppose.) I was pleased, however, to see that several bus loads of middle school children were also there to enjoy the event. Brief mentions of Julliard and tuition at other music schools led me to believe they were all aspiring musicians. What a wonderful opportunity for these children. I thank the schools that made this possible for them. I plan on returning to see this orchestra play again this fall with Rossini's Barber of Seville. Thank you!!!

Fantasia live was an expierence of a lifetime!

by swidge on 7/26/13The Mann Center - Philadelphia

I am a music teacher who has only seen a good live performance of a professional orchestra a few times in my life. I love the movie Fantasia, and the stories it tells, and Disney. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to see a great orchestra live at a great cost. I sat in the lawn and it was incredible! Sitting under the night sky, seeing a professional orchestra and listening to music I already knew and loved was unforgettable. I would see it again and recommend anyone who has a little bit of interest to go and see it as well!

Good concert but needlessly mucked around with.

by Danleyness on 7/26/13The Mann Center - Philadelphia

When you see the title "Disney's Fantasia: Live in Concert," you expect to see the entirety of Disney's Fantasia with live orchestral accompaniment. Unfortunately, this was not the case. For some reason, the programmers felt the need to muck around with things, by making substitutions from Fantasia 2000 and cutting some of the most important numbers from the original. Notably absent was the Rite of Spring, which was replaced by Stravinsky's Firebird, which, while a beautiful piece of music, had a much weaker animated sequence. The other big disappointment was the substitution of Pomp and Circumstance for Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. Aside from Pomp and Circumstance being a dull piece of music when compared to the drama of Night on Bald Mountain, the animation is also a mindless cartoon featuring Donald Duck, as opposed to the beautifully animated, and frankly terrifying sequence from the original. What they did from the original was fantastic, with the Tchaikovsky being especially fantastic, but the concert was very disappointing because of the notable absences in the program.
