Great show in a cosy, beautiful room!

by LiveVegan on 8/31/22Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre - Somerville

A wonderful performance from two ridiculously talented musicians in an intimate venue with stellar sound. The employees were friendly and helpful as well. If I could change one thing at the Crystal Ballroom, it would be to bring in more comfortable chairs. Other than that, we had a fantastic time!

    Wonderful show, wonderful location

by Epsilons Dad on 4/6/22Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre - Somerville

I was totally looking forward to seeing the Other Favorites at the Crystal Ball room and the show didn't disappoint. The venue is clean and intimate, the table seating setup provides appropriate density for the current time. The show was a nice mix of their current album and previous works with a few of their most popular Youtube covers thrown in for the youtube crowd. My biggest complaint is that the show sold out within hours of it being announced so if you aren't following the band, you probably missed out on the opportunity to see an awesome show.

    Superb musical talent, no gimmicks

by K on 4/5/22Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre - Somerville

The Other favorites--Joshua Lee Turner and Carson McKee--are some of the best singers, instrumentalists (esp. guitar and banjo) and song writers around today. Their performances are all about showcasing their talent and their music. A bit of commentary here and there, and clever. But none of the bombast of a rock band, no performance of a scene or a subculture. The audience is also diverse: all ages, near even gender mix, no discernible shared style or subculture. I guess this is what you get when a reputation is built through YouTube--you have no idea who else is listening to the music, unlike attending live shows. Nobody is cultivating a taste for the music because it fits their self-image. If you get a chance to see them on tour, take it!
