About

THE O'JAYS IN CONCERT:

When it comes to classy, color-coordinated, old-school soul showmanship, nobody can touch the O'Jays. Taking the stage in matching suits to perform beloved classics from their decade-spanning catalog, the debonair trio never fails to transport audiences back to the good old days of "Love Train" and "For the Love of Money." Hot off the heels of their 2013 induction into the R&B Music Hall of Fame, the O'Jays will treat fans to several highly anticipated appearances in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Ohio in 1958, The O'Jays experienced moderate success throughout the '60s with a string of minor hits like "Lonely Drifter" and  "Lipstick Traces." On the verge of calling it quits in the early '70s, the band finally got their big break after signing to Philadelphia International for their platinum-selling 1972 single "Back Stabbers." The song established them as a key player in the Philadelphia soul movement, a funk-infused brand of soul that pioneered many of the elements later adopted by disco. A string of hits would follow throughout the '70s, including epochal No. 1 smash "Love Train," creating a legacy the band continues to honor today with their spirited performances on tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"They sounded great and put on a really great show. They sang all of their popular songs, ending with For the Love of Money...which brought the house down. Everyone was on their feet, dancing and singing and really enjoying the show."

"This was a great show. They performed their old-school moves and wore matching outfits, something you don't see with ‘newer’ performers."

"The show was awesome. The O'Jays took me down memory lane and back. The show was attended by ages 20-80 and all had a great time."

    Foul play.

by Wiser on 11/29/09Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

The Ojay’s, whom I have seen many times, have become a foul-mouthed, sexually explicit group. I found them offensive the last few concerts, and will not attend any more concerts where such "Foul play" is served as entertainment. I will have to be content with their past hits which I own, and have enjoyed for years. Most of those attending the concert on 11-28-2009, seemed not to mind the foul language, or the sexually explicit words and actions of the O'Jays. But to each their own, I did not enjoy the concert. The whispers are about women, sex and lovemaking, with only a few foul words. Most women seem to like the Whispers and their music. As a man, I do not care for them. Again to each their own. The "New Stylistics" was the best act of the three billed, and clean. No foul language, or sexual body language or words. They came on first and were the best in my eyes. I would pay to see them again.

    Whispers

by GeGe3 on 11/29/09Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

Although all of the groups showed the audience that they have not lost a beat, I was disappointed in my favorite group , The Whispers. They did not sing my favorites - Have You Ever Been Kissed, Say Yes, Lady, Just Gets Better with Time, Is it Good to You, ...the baby making songs. No one made babies to Rock Steady, And the Beat Goes on and Its a Love Thang. They haven't lost their voices -- but I was disappointed that they didn't sing my favs. I would recommend the concert, but don't expect to hear your favorites.

    The Ojays were disappointing!!

by missjonespower99 on 11/28/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

The performance was wayyyyyyy too short. We in the audience thought it was intermission, but it was the end of the show! They never even performed Darling, darling baby!! I was here last week for Peabo Bryson, and was on my way to see Patti Labelle in March, but i will NEVER patronize the Bergen PAC again after this little stunt they pulled!!

The OJAY'S are still Mighty ! They were BAD

by AVIOLET on 11/28/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

They did not miss a beat, it brought me back to all of my club or disco day's. Their voices were as crisp as they were 25 years ago, and I hope they continue to tour. What a treat!! A must see

    Great Show

by Thutmose on 11/15/09Dar Constitution Hall - Washington

Overall the show was great. The Jones girl really got us warmed up, The Ice Man was Chilly in a good way!!! The Stylistics sounded fantastic. The Delphonics needs a new lead singer as well as the Intruders, the background was good but Bobby Starr and William Hart need to hang it up. The Ojays were good but I've seen them better. But overall it was a great show.

The Love Train was on Schedule

by djohnson20024 on 11/14/09Dar Constitution Hall - Washington

Overall I enjoyed the show and every entertainer or group came out right on time! However, although I have always enjoyed the other entertainers or groups, I mostly enjoyed Jerry Butler, Harold Melvin's Bluenotes, and the O'Jays last night. Especially, the Bluenotes. Sorry Eddie:o)

I loved the performance. They are awesome. I purchased my tix in Aug and have been anxiously awaiting the event. I must say is was well worth the wait. The O'Jays still "got it going on". The sound was horrible. The Boutwell need to get a new sound system. But it was worth my ears ringing for 24hrs to see the best of the best perform. I loved them and wish they could come to Columbus, GA. LOVE YOU O'JAYS.

    O'Jays - Fantastic!

    by Kikismom54 on 11/2/09Boutwell Auditorium - Birmingham

Let me tell you that I live in Birmingham, AL for the last four years and am originally from Los Angeles. I can tell you that the Ship Ahoy concert at the Greek Theater in 1980.... when I was 30 something.........whatever was unlike anything I had ever experienced in my life. Fake money fell out of the sky when they sang their last song "For the Love of Money" They had pirate ship props and dressed like pirates when they sang Ship Ahoy. These are major details of the O'jays that I never want to forget for as long as I live. That's all we did in L.A. was go to concerts and jazz festivals all the time. I can tell you, I've seen quite a few performers but I haven't found a group yet to top these brothers. I love them madly. I'm soooooooooo glad I came up when I did. So moving forward to the 1990's, By this time, I'm 40 something......... and I get to see the O'jays perform at the L.A. County fair in pomona where we lived. Tell me that I remember the Powder Blue Suits that they had on that night. Different atmosphere at the fairgrounds. Most of the concerts at the fair you have to stand up and watch and you don't pay that much for ther performance. But guess what? It was like I had paid major money. Nothing had changed. The show was off the chain and it was about 100 degrees at night. In fact I think they had gotten even better. Now here is it moving up to 2009 and I'm 50 something now (smile).... and I don't know about anyone else, I just speak for me. I acted like I was at the 30 something show! I kid you not. These men did something to me on Friday Night. Something I took home with me. Memories to hold forever. I was fortunate to take along three of my girlfriends. What fun we had. Really wish you could perform at my birthday. But that is wishful thinking but it is nice to have someone to think about that way. I LOVE YOU GUYS ALWAYS. Kikis Mom from Birmingham by way of Los Angeles.

    O'Jays were on point!!!!

    by BamaDiva1 on 11/2/09Boutwell Auditorium - Birmingham

Excellent show... I really enjoyed they played all of their oldies but goodies song. I wish they would have played a little longer. The show didn't actually start with SWV until 9:00 p.m. Only two problems.... Seats were too close together on the floor, two large people could not sit next to one another. The floor crowd stayed standing, so you never got a chance to seat in your seat.
