Loved the show. My favorite part was that I got to sit down (upstairs) while almost everyone else there had to stand. Seriously- the show was very entertaining. I love all the different sounds and instruments they use. Love the bass player and the girl. Oh, and the lead vocal and the other guy. :-) I wasn't crazy about the rocker efforts, but love the mountain music, bluegrassy kind of stuff. You need to KEEP the girl from the warm-up group and keep her in Low Anthem! Sounded AWESOME together- three guyse, two gurls!
I went because of the NYT article, and i listened to 45 sec. of a song. Sold. Loved the pump organ and as i was basically at their feet was very interested in the different pumping styles and levels of all those different legs. Real good drummers, & bassists, whoever picked one up did it right, but maybe not the clarinets. 2 tunes would've done it for me. The electric guitar was not used to it's potential, and was kind of jumbled at times. They reminded me of an updated, early years, Incredible String Band. Loved the vocals and harmonies. If they could expand a little bit on the lead instrumental breaks I'd enjoy them even more. While none are virtuosos, except maybe Nicaraguan Coffee guy, and saw guy, I think that if they get a little more instrumentally oriented, they could compliment the really good thing that they do
angels who can play loads of insraments, with infinite creativity. nothing more to say, but beautiful
..... I was a little disappointed by the over all sloppiness of their set. I guess I expected the last show on this leg of their tour to by tighter than it was. Some degree of rawness is one of the things that I like about the band, but they really jelled together about half the time.
it is hard to believe that people can be this talented. i am humbled and in awe. any chance to experience this should not be missed.
lovely - simple as that! i was moved by the whole event
I actually only knew Bobby (one of the opening bands), but the incredible backdrop of the church and the magnificent acoustics the space created caused me to stick around for the whole show.
Saw Low Anthem at Old South Church in Boston. While the venue was beyond special in its own right, the band was pure brilliance. Never have I seen such a diversity of instruments, with such talented players, and beautiful voices. It bore the profundity of a classical music concert, with the raw emotion of a bluegrass gathering in the backwoods. And those harmonies! Those harmonies! (Yes, it bears worth repeating.) Low Anthem, you have given me the musical experience of a lifetime.
Low Anthem were awesome... their vocals and harmony blow me away every time I hear them. The accustics in the Old South Church were clear, crisp and haunting (in a good way) The only negatives of the night was waiting in line in the freezing cold, long past when the doors were to open. And the warm up band (Boy? Boyn?) was terrible! I would suggest a new warm up band for Low Anthem to tour with.... many people shared my feelings on this. They were so bad I unfortunately, would forgoe seeing Low Anthem again, if it meant having to sit through that agonizing music and show again. But Low Anthem helped us forget!!
The low Anthem has a live sound like no other. They sound beautiful wether all four are in a circle singing into the same mic or rocking out to a barn burner. The concert also being in a church had a very cool effect.
The sound at Old South Church was amazing. I like that they are all always changing instruments. I was very low key and mellow music. There were really only two faster songs and they were a little too loud.
