About

The Lone Bellow burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 2013. The Nashville-based trio (Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist, Kanene Pipkin) quickly became known for their transcendent harmonies, serious musicianship and raucous live performance -- creating what NPR calls, 'earnest and magnetic folk-pop built to shake the rafters.' In 2015, the band released Then Came The Morning, produced by The National's Aaron Dessner. The album was nominated for an Americana Music Award and took the band to numerous late night shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Show With David Letterman and Later...with Jools Holland, among others. In 2017, The Lone Bellow returned with Walk Into A Storm, produced by legendary music producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Sturgill Simpson), followed by 2020's Half Moon Light, an artistic triumph the band worked toward for years.

In a departure from their past work with elite producers Dessner and Cobb, the trio struck out on their own for their fifth full-length album Love Songs for Losers, dreaming up a singular sound encompassing everything from arena-ready rock anthems to the gorgeously sprawling Americana tunes the band refers to as "little redneck symphonies." Recorded at the possibly haunted former home of the legendary Roy Orbison, the result is an intimate meditation on the pain and joy and ineffable wonder of being human, at turns heartbreaking, irreverent, and sublimely transcendent.

After sketching the album's 11 songs in a nearby church, the band holed up for eight weeks at Orbison's house on Old Hickory Lake, slowly carving out their most expansive and eclectic body of work yet. Co-produced by Elmquist and Jacob Sooter, Love Songs for Losers also finds Pipkin taking the reins as vocal producer, expertly harnessing the rarefied vocal magic they've brought to the stage in touring with the likes of Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves.

For The Lone Bellow, the triumph of completing their first self-produced album marks the start of a thrilling new chapter in the band's journey. "At the outset it was scary to take away the safety net of working with a big-name producer and lean on each other instead," says Pipkin. "It took an incredible amount of trust, but in the end it was so exciting to see each other rise to new heights." And with the release of Love Songs for Losers, the trio feel newly emboldened to create without limits. "This album confirmed that we still have beauty to create and put out into the world, and that we're still having fun doing that after ten years together," says Elmquist. "It reminded us of our passion for pushing ourselves out onto the limb and letting our minds wander into new places, and it sets me on fire to think of what we might make next."

    Best show I've been to

by Anonymous on 11/19/13Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I've seen The Lone Bellow before and they were really good, but this show was something special. They seem to have developed more confidence since I saw them last and it translated into a truly unforgettable performance. Plugged in and playing with the full band, they were fantastic. But then they unplugged, came off the stage, and used their voices to truly make magic. Listen to their recorded stuff, but make sure you go see The Lone Bellow live. Truly amazing stuff.

    The Lone Bellow were incredible

by JWeitz on 11/19/13Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

One of the most enjoyable concerts I have ever been to. The band was absolutely incredible. And their voices sounded perfect in the synagogue. They were very engaging with the crowd. Such an intimate experience. Reminded me of watching a VH1 storyteller from back in the day. When they came down to the crowd for a couple songs without microphones, it was just perfect.

The Lone Bellow at Sixth & I

by Irishbuddha on 11/19/13Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

The Lone Bellow concert at Sixth & I was amazing. The venue was perfect for their sound. The opener, Greg Holden, was really good. The Lone Bellow is great to see in person because their sound is so big and the harmonizing is even more captivating in person. The audience was a lot of fun too -- everyone clearly liked and knew their work and was having a great time.

    The Lone Bellow was amazing!

by Anonymous on 11/15/1320th Century Theater - Cincinnati

If you have not heard of this trio you are missing out on one the most talented bands around! The mix of rock, folk, country, R&B, and 3-harmonies left the entire audience captivated throughout the performance. Not only were the band members extremely talented, their interaction with the crowd was just enough but not too much. I immediately went online and downloaded as much of their music as I could find. I am in awe of the fact that I was able to be three rows back from arguably one of the best bands in the country. I will go see them as many times as possible but I'm afraid that next time I will be paying a much steeper price and sitting in a large arena. Awesome show, awesome venue! Thanks.

For lovers of onstage insanity and vocal talent

by dunovank on 11/10/13The Club at Stage AE - Pittsburgh

I'll keep this brief. They put on an unbelievable show in Pittsburgh. To say they had an energetic stage presence would be woefully underselling their performance. But most importantly, the quality of the music was never sacrificed for showmanship, every note, chord, harmony more pristine and heartfelt than the last. They interacted with the crowd a bunch, which is always fun, at one point Zach Williams (lead singer) requested that everyone find a partner, stranger or long time lover, to waltz with during one of their songs. It was pretty excellent. The night ended with Williams and co. making their way from the stage into the center of the crowd for an intimate acoustic performance. Truly a beautiful evening. TL; DR: Go see them.

    Do yourself a favor...

by PeanutXtreme on 11/9/13The Club at Stage AE - Pittsburgh

I had been wanting to go to a concert for a while, and was looking on my local radio stations website for upcoming bands. I saw The Lone Bellow and I remembered hearing them in WYEP, really liked their sound just from the one song. After seeing they were coming I was like, "alright, let's see what else they got." Because I didn't want to got just off one song and hate the rest, that's dumb. Anyways, I listened to the rest of the album and really liked what I heard. Bought the tickets. So, as I'm waiting for the night of the concert I'm picturing their performance as a mellow, kinda laid back band. Sure they had some heavier parts in their sings but I didn't expect anything crazy. And I was dead wrong...in the BEST possible way. Their performance was just amazing. I don't know how else to put it. Their vocals were just as good as the recording if not better, the harmonies were amazing. But most of all the feeling! Man...that was awesome. You could feel the emotion behind every song and I loved that. That's what sets a true band away from the bands you say, "yeah that was a good song". I could go on forever about them, but if you get a chance to see them live DO NOT...DO NOT miss it. I'm so glad I was able to experience their awe inspiring performance in such a small venue. Thank you so much Lone Bellow for putting your heart and soul into your music. We need that these days.

The Lone Bellow was one of the greatest shows I've seen in a long time! Their sound was flawless, they sounded as good if not better live, and they were fun, energetic, and engaging. The openers complemented them very well--a great lineup

Band(s) were great! Venue, not so much. The Lone Bellow pulled out all the stops and gave an amazing show! If you like their music and get a chance to see them live - go! The warm up bands were good too & the crowd responded positively to both of them. However, if you're going to a show at the Sinclair - be warned, there are no seats at all. No where to go chill. It's packed, shoulder-to-shoulder and pretty uncomfortable.

The Lone Bellow...wow Favorite new band!

by KimLovesMusic on 5/2/13Eddie's Attic - Decatur

I recently became a fan of the group The Lone Bellow. My family are all fans now also. We saw them perform in April and haven't stopped playing their cd since. We are getting ready to go see them again this week and are planning another trip to see them in a few months. Their vocals, dynamic stage presence, musical talent...they blew it out of the water! They should headline their own tour. I'd go again and again.

The Lone Bellow rocks the house

by Faso on 2/7/13Bowery Ballroom - New York

The Lone Bellow is totally awesome! They're so comfortable on stage and give each song their all. They love the crowd and do a great job interacting; through sing a longs or clapping or breaking into old school R&B tunes. Never a dull moment, never was I bored or waiting. Hung on every word, just like everyone else.

The Lone Bellow was absolutely amazing!

by Sweetsassymolassy on 2/7/13Bowery Ballroom - New York

The venue was electrified by the music and performance of the Lone Bellow. It felt like a room full of friends, old, new, and some yet to be met, but friends none the less. We were taken from raucous frenzy to clear and poiniant moments of sweet reflection and story telling. I feel fortunate to have been a part of such an amazing night.
