The London Suede on Tour

Legendary English band The London Suede (known simply as The Suede in the UK) are an alternative-rock, glam rock, pop-rock, shoe-gazing, dance-pop group from London. Originally formed in 1989, The London Suede drew on musical influences such as Roxy Music, The Smiths, David Bowie, and The Cure. Following the release of their ninth album, and first record in four years, 2022's Autofiction, The London Suede commenced their 2022 North American tour. With the band's lineup currently featuring original members Brett Anderson (vocals) and Mat Osman (bass), along with Simon Gilbert (drums), Richard Oakes (guitar/backing vocals), and Neil Codling (keyboards, synthesizer, guitar, piano, backing vocals), The London Suede's live performances are filled with the same gritty, darkly melodic and majestic beats for which the band has been known for more than three decades.

The London Suede first emerged onto the music scene with their debut single "The Drowners" in 1992, which earned an NME Award for Best Single. That same year the band released their second single, "Metal Mickey," followed by their debut album, Suede, in 1993. Following their debut album, The London Suede released Dog Man Star (1994), Coming Up (1996), Head Music (1999), A New Morning (2002), Bloodsports (2013), Night Thoughts (2016), The Blue Hour (2018), and Autofiction (2022).

The London Suede Live in Concert

Shifting through a number of band members in the early '90s, The London Suede's only constant members from the formation of their group are vocalist Anderson and bassist Osman. The band's first single, "The Drowners" reached No. 49 on the U.K. charts in 1992 and was quickly followed by their breakthrough song, "Metal Mickey," which reached No. 17 on the charts. The London Suede's debut album, Suede, debuted at the top of the UK Albums chart and became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK since Frankie Goes to Hollywood's debut album, Welcome to Pleasuredome, was released in 1984. Hot off their newfound fame, The London Suede continued to rock their way through the '90s, winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize for Best Album for Suede in 1993. After a successful run in the '90s, at the end of 2003 the band announced that they would not continue to make music.

The London Suede reemerged in 2013 with their album, Bloodsports, which made several best-of lists in 2013. They continued making music, coming out with the 2016 album, Night Thoughts, which reached No. 6 on the U.K. charts, and 2018's The Blue Hour, which was placed on multiple best-of albums lists.

    A magical night

by HardRockAndy on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Why have I never seen Suede before? Incredible set, full of passion and energy. The new songs are as good as any they’ve done prior. Glad I made the effort to fly in from Florida, I will be seeking out another tour/concert even if I have to go overseas, which I’ve done for other bands.

    So smooth

by Brian O on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

I have been a fan of The London Suede's music for years, but somehow had never seen them live - what a mistake! They rock'nrolled big time. Brett was all over the stage like a mad man - he owned it! All in all so good - a show to impress!!

I am so glad I flew up for this!!

by Eric4953 on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Manic Street Preachers opened, and i thought they were good, and they were. But Suede blew them away! They sounded terrific, musicly, and vocally. But the best part was the amazing performance of Mr. Brett Anderson. Dancing and swaying like he was 20 years old, and he never missed a note. All the while encouraging the crowd to sing back to him. And he even took a stroll around the floor, singing with his fans. I flew into Philly just for this show, and it was worth every penny.

by Hylandlisa on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

I have been waiting to see Suede since I first heard Metal Mickey way back when and they didn’t disappoint! Sounded great, looked great and a high energy set! Come back to the USA again!

    Legendary

by BenWest on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

My first time at the MET in Philly, great venue. The show was great, I’ve seen Suede few years ago and been listening to them since the mid 90s (now you can imagine how old I am). They had a good set list but I wish they played more of their hits. Together with manic street preachers, this was an awesome show.

    Great show!

by David G on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Great evening! The Met is an excellent venue for live music and both the MSPs and Suede really delivered energetic and passionate performances. It was great to see that both bands really cared at this stage of their careers. I was more familiar with Suede’s music so I enjoyed their set a little more. Brett Andersen was sensational as a lead singer and connected immediately with the audience. Their 65 min set went far too quickly!

by E on 11/22/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Never seen a band give so much energy and love to what they do like Suede. The entire set was completely on fire. Best live band ever. Best frontman ever.

The bands were probably good, the venue was not.

by Mike on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I bought 3 tickets to take 2 of my kids to see the Manic Street Preachers (and Suede). I have only been to the Palladium twice before. The first time, I was standing downstairs and the view was not great, so the second time (Muse, about 4 years ago), I bought tickets for upstairs. When we got there, we found that it was not all standing upstairs, there were actually rows of seats that we were told were for VIP's and we had to stand behind them. Again, not great. So this time, I thought I was prepared. The tickets for this gig were either downstairs or VIP upstairs - I splashed out on 3 tickets for the VIP upstairs. My (grown up) kids were excited to go. Imagine how we felt when we got upstairs and were told that our VIP tickets were not valid for the seating, they were just standing (what sort of VIP is just standing), we were told that we had to pay another $80 each to sit (I could see many others complaining too). This was definitely not VIP treatment. After a lot of deliberation, we paid for 3 seats at the front of the balcony, overlooking the stage. When we sat down, we found that we could not actually see the stage, the seats were too far back from the edge of the balcony - so we ended up having paid extra to still be standing. The one consolation was that we had nobody in front of us and a great view of the band. The Manics came on and the first number was great, then a very bright light was switched on (far side of stage) that shone directly into our eyes - we were all blinded. The light was used for almost the entire Manics set. We hardly saw any of it and ended up sitting for most of their set with our eyes either closed or turned away from the stage. It turned out to be a very expensive night out, just to listen to a band.

by Lex on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

We've waited so long for Suede to play LA and they did not disappoint. So many great songs, the energy was amazing. We knew it would be fun but during the entire show i kept thinking to myself, "this is so much more fun than i could ever expect!" Hope to see them again!

    After 25 years, Suede retuned...

by jdaydreamer on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

After 25 years, Suede retuned. As a long time fan who saw some of the band's first gigs in the US, I can say without a doubt, Suede has never sounded stronger or preformed better. Brett's voice hasn't changed one octave...and the band still creates worlds with every hit of a snare or strum of a cord. The Hollywood Palladium was the perfect venue for he band...we can only hope they come back,

A Concert 32 Years In The Making

by VIM Magazine on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Suede and Manic Street Preachers performed to perfection on a tour that marked a return to the US for both bands after almost 30 years. And after watching their performances, it was well worth the wait. The Palladium was packed with fans from all over the world. Truly an experience to remember.

    Bag policy

by Ramon on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Bag policy at the door is ridiculous, The bag had to be insanely small and even if you had a small bag they wanted you to checked the bag… Other than that the concert was good

    Amazing!!!!

by JVH on 11/13/22Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Manics and Suede are iconic bands that have influenced me greatly. Manics opened and sounded fantastic. Suede played after and really pumped it up. The venue switched the balcony seating all up which was odd. The crowd was quite tame and sleepy That’s Los Angeles for ya. We sanded the night away and the all killed it!

Suede was a concert for the ages

    by Sly fox on 11/12/22

I have been wanting to see suede for nearly 25 years and my final bucket list band came to Los Angeles and they did not disappoint. Brett Anderson sounded great and was one of the most animated front men I've ever seen.. all the hits were there a b-side and several trucks from their outstanding new album. What a show!
