THE KILLS IN CONCERT:

Indie duo The Kills let fans know what theyíre all about from the second they take the stage clad in leather jackets: theyíre ready to kick out their lo-fi tunes with a dangerous edge and tons of rock ëní roll swagger. Sneering frontwoman Alison Mosshart oozes pure mojo as she pounds out power chords and whispers her seductive vocals into the microphone. Guitarist Jamie Hince jumps in to deliver cutting lead lines while dancing around and conjuring bizarre sound effects from his overdriven amplifiers. They combine these hard-hitting elements with robotic drum machines to drive explosive rockers like ìNo Wowî and ìTape Songî with an insistent groove. But they can also slow the tempo on ballads like ìBlack Balloonî and ìRodeo Townî to add a melancholy bent without losing their riveting edge. In either case, each rough-and-tumble gem The Kills play on stage will leave ticket buyers breathless and begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Singer/guitarist Alison Mosshart first caught guitarist Jamie Hince playing a solo show when she was touring England in 2000 with her Florida-based punk band Discount. The two traded ideas through the mail for a couple years before Mosshart relocated to London in 2002 and the duo released their debut EP Black Rooster. The Kills built on the EPís success the following year with their first full-length album Keep on Your Mean Side. The unique lo-fi sound of the group caught the attention of The Raconteurs frontman Jack White, who invited them on tour. The increased exposure helped them become indie darlings with the release of critically adored albums like No Wow (2005) and Midnight Boom (2008). Both members continue to split their time between The Kills and side projects, such as Mosshartís collaboration with Jack White in The Dead Weather. But fans remain eager to see what thrilling new sounds The Kills cook up both at their raucous live shows and on their highly anticipated fifth album.

    The Kills slayed us.

by unclejimmy on 7/12/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

Great sound for a duo. I don't normally like drum machines over the real deal, but with The Kills it worked well. Great on stage interaction between Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince.

    Amazing.

by mlima on 7/12/09Glass House - Pomona

To see this band at such a small venue was incredible. That was my fourth time seeing them and this was my favorite. To be able to be so close to the stage just made the experience out of this world. Alisson and Jamie have such great stage presence. The sound was great, the set list...perfection. carpe diem.

The Kills are unbelievable yet again!

by OpenUpYourMind on 7/12/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Saw The Kills last year and thought there was no way they could do another equally awesome show this year but they totally did. I could watch them perform every week and still get just as hyped. The energy they put into each and every song is amazing and their stage presence and how they move around and connect with the audience is great! I will see them every time they play anywhere near!

    Incredible

by Wldflwr on 7/12/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

If I could, I would go to every gig they went to and watched them. I loved thiis concert and in the end, I found myself longing for more. I love The Kills and both of them are not too shabby looking so it made it even better. The Horrors were a great opener. They are creepy yet cool. The only bad thing I could say is that it took forever for the Kills to go on. They took probably over half an hour to go on after The Horrors. Jamie has such great style and his smile was breathtaking. While Alison looked beautiful and she knows how to move and use the stage.

    The Horrors are the shizzle!

by arce on 7/12/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

I've been obsessed with The Horrors ever since the first EP came out, but as alomst everybody else, my jaw dropped with their new album, Primary Colours, so i was very excited to hear they would be coming, and especially to my favorite venue, the Music Box. I like the kills a lot, but i honestly went to the show for the horrors. They were amazing, as expected, great players live, sound was great. I'm in love with the new album but it was kind of a dissapointment that they did not play a single song from previous albums. I was really looking forward to hearing a live Sheena is a Parasite, or Count in Fives, but no, only the new album. Which is not bad because it's amazing, but did miss a couple of songs. The Kills were the headliners and i do have to admit, they put on a great show, they were much more confident than the horrors, which are actually all pretty young guys and you can tell. They're not at their peak, performance wise, but they'll get there. Awesome show.

Both bands played their buts off the Kills work really well off each other it is a great thing to watch. The horrors started off slowly but picked up momentum and finished really nicely.

    The Kills will floor you

by Bexter on 7/12/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

Alison Mosshart is a tour de force. She has one of the greatest stage presences I've ever seen and you just know she's having a blast up there. I'll never forget the moment the curtain closed and everyone just stood there reeling. I had a huge grin on my face, turned at the exact same moment as the stranger next to me who had huge grin on his face. We just grinned at each other for a moment, knowing we had just seen something great.
