The Humans was outstanding

Extremely hard to hear dialogue, especially when all the characters were speaking at once (which was often). Better suited to a smaller theatre. Disappointing.
Great play, gammage is good place to view plays and shows. Very enjoyable.
We always manage to have a good time at Gammage since the people, as well a their wine & sandwich terrace are a great part of the entertainment. "The Humans" itself, which started out with great promise, slowly developed into an unrealistic & stilted dialogue between family members during a family get together on Thanksgiving. I felt that the actors, especially Richard Thomas, performed well but it may be their stage direction as well as the need for a script revision which led to a tiresome 90 minutes.
I know the play was about trials and tribulations during a Thanksgiving get-together, but too often they were yelling and all talking at once. Therefore I was unable to hear anything!
Recommended with the shared knowledge that the ASU Gammage has terrible acoustics. That said, I know what to expect & catch most big shows elsewhere but ever so often I go to something at the Gammage. Even after all the money Gammage spent on the acoustics; it is still awful !!! You can blame the aging headphones or transmitter/receivers but the fault with the hearing assisted system is that it DOES NOT FUNCTION & should be updated or replaced & tuned by engineers. So, although the show was very good; the all important dialogue was often muddled, which drags down the performance. Even a highly lauded, popular show can be diminished by poor sound engineering & an equally poor headphone system. It feels like paying 100% for 80% of the content or a catastrophic set failure. As I exchanged the questionable equipment for my drivers license I heard others comment that their units did not work.... not once or twice but three specific times... Ouch..
Liked the play. Usually Gammage has the speakers turned on in upper levels but not on this night, making the dialogue difficult to understand on multiple occasions.
Not what I thought it would be for an award winning show. There was a lot going on and hard to keep up with the many fast conversations
Every one will find something to take away! Young and old alike!
First let me say The Gammage Theatre is amazing. I always love going to shows there. The Humans was not one of them. The acting was fine but not great. I feel the biggest miss was the sound. It was not loud enough. In turn what may have been witty banter may have been lost. Based on audience response I was not the only one missing the funny stuff.
