Lackluster
by blakesouth on 1/18/16North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonI love the Christmas Ballet, The Nutcracker, and I was excited to see what I thought would be a modern and energetic twist on it. I was surprised and very disappointed at this low budget production. There literally were barely any props and the scenery was all on a movie screen. At performance time, Kurtis Blow did about a 45 minute opening act which I wasn't expecting (I was expecting to see a dance show); his act was elementary, old, and lacked talent. Then for the actual show: I thought the music would have been more adapted as hip-hop, but rather this was hip hop dancing set to Tchaikovsky's music, which left the dance slow and lacking energy. There were very few exciting or even spectacular moves, although there were a few impressive segments. I left at intermission.
