About

Considered by many to be the Great American Novel, The Great Gatsby is at once titillating, fascinating and shocking in its portrayal of The Jazz Age that was soon to disappear from the American landscape. In this first authorized adaptation since 1926, Simon Levy brings the humor, irony, pathos and loveliness of F. Scott Fitzgerald's American classic to the stage. Navigate the languid atmosphere of wealth and privilege with Nick Carraway as he observes the glittering, elaborate parties of his neighbor, the infamous and illusive Jay Gatsby.

    Great Gatsby was NOT great

by Pattikl on 3/27/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

I'm sorry to say that this show was quite disappointing. Some of the actors did a great job and the costumes and sets were very creative and clever at times. On the whole, however, the play just did not hang together well. The cast did not seem to have much energy and the story didn't hold together much of the time. The action moved so slowly at times that I thought I'd fall asleep. The show had potential but it was not realized.

EXCELLENT ACTING AND ENTERTAINING. You asked to tell about our seats: mine was red colored, and a fold-down type.

    Not Good

by CarandR on 3/25/12Herberger Theater Center - Phoenix

We felt the play was very choppy. We had difficulty understanding the speech of some of the characters. We thought the costuming and staging were very well done.

Terrific play, nice venue, perfect birthday gift

by Boodad on 3/19/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

It's been years since I watched a play, but this one was a "non-musical." As such, I found the acting and storyline engaging. The props were minimal but not distracting, which makes you focus on the acting more. Wonderful two hours went by quick.

This was a great adaptation of book, true to key scenes. Creative use of props but at times it was a bit lacking in imagination. I thought the 'boob reveal' was completely unnecessary, out of place and didn't fit in with the rest of the play. The acting at times was a bit forced but overall it was a great production.

Great Gatsby - Arizona Theater Company production

by RetiredTheaterLover on 3/18/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

The production is very faithful to the book. The sets suggest rather than portray the various scenes and help the production move nimbly from scene to scene as a result. The actors are all up to the challenge and form a harmonious ensemble.

    The Great Gatsby

The acting in this theater production and the imaginative stage settings really make this a must see performance. Normally, I do not like flash back plays but this one was so well done that I enjoyed it .

The play was flat and possibly miscast.....too bad I was up for the play, a bit disappointing.....several roles were overacted and others just flat.

Amateurish performance. Cheap sets. Would NOT recommend to anyone who has enjoyed F.Scott Fitz.

    The Great Gatsby

by Britchy on 3/12/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

Awesome from beginning to end. Costuming, sets, casting were over the top. It is our best theater moment in Tucson. The show was tight, dancing great and the directoring was excellent. Great job.

The actors were superb. Great job by the crew who created the subtle special effects. I think the Dancers really added an extra nice dimension to the play. Wonderful!

The Great Gatsby - a play worth seeing

by Anonymous on 3/11/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

The costumes were super and the choreography and music superb. ATC really caught the feeling of the 20's. The acting was convincing and I felt drawn into the story.

It was really boring. Some of the props were great ( like the plane and the taxi) the only song was sung off key!

    Great Gatsby ...Great!

by RARARA on 3/2/12Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

Though the beginning was slow, once I shed my disdain for Daisy's southern accent (which she didn't use the entire play ???) I loved this old fashioned tale. The sets were very creative and staging was good. We still suffer from this caste system in our society, very discouraging.
