The Glorious Sons on Tour

Whoever said rock was dead clearly hasn't been to a Glorious Sons show. Over the course of the past decade, the Kingston, Ontario, group has gone from playing Canada's dingiest dive bars to headlining its most hallowed arenas — and when you see the band in action, it's easy to understand why. The band's modernized riff on classic rock has found an intensely loyal, ever-expanding following among people whose idea of a balanced lifestyle is wrapping one hand around a cold beer and raising the other in a permanent fist-pump. On the heels of their 2019 single "Panic Attack," the Sons hit the road with a busy summer itinerary, including a date with The Rolling Stones and appearances at some of Canada's biggest festivals (Ottawa Bluesfest, Osheaga), then hit the stateside club circuit with British rock brats The Struts.

The Glorious Sons in Concert

When you're a no-frills rock band hailing from the Canadian college town of Kingston, Ontario, you must contend with the long shadow cast by your home city's most famous exports, The Tragically Hip. But since 2011, The Glorious Sons have been building a legacy all their own. Since the release of their southern-fried 2013 single "Mama" — the song that introduced the nation to the soulful powerhouse pipes of frontman Brett Emmons — the Sons have taken up residency in the upper reaches of the Canadian rock radio charts and never left. On the back of gritty rockers like "Heavy" and "The Contender," their 2014 debut album The Union earned a Juno nomination for Best Rock Album, an award they would eventually claim with 2017's Young Beauties and Fools. Outfitting the band's old-school bluesy foundation with a more pronounced pop polish, the album's standout working-class anthem "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)" showcased the Sons' singular flair for making your darkest days sound like the time of your life.

    Best concert in years!!

by Cyn on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

The venue was well laid out and VIP entry was pure Canadian politeness with no pushing, shoving, or running. Everyone was given time to choose their spot at the rails. As for the music, well...it was unbeatable!! The Glorious Sons know how to rock!! The sound was perfect and the lights on point! I foresee that one day soon the Glorious Sons will be as well known and loved as bands such as AC/DC, Metallica, and the Tragically Hip. In my mind they are already there!! I love this band and can't wait for the next show!!

Band were great, venue needs work

by KtownFinn on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

Matt Mays and the Glorious Sons put on a stellar show, stage setup was incredible as well. However, the experience itself was less than desirable. From entry, to beer and bathroom lines, this was a dog and pony show. Very little organization. Pretty disappointing.

    Never Again

by Morgan on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

It was the absolute worst location for a concert. The Sons were amazing but how could you enjoy the experience with all the nonsense that occurred. I paid $75 to have all kinds of booze spilled on me, cigarette butts burn me and dropped down my footwear (taking into consideration it was a smoke free environment). The alcohol provided was so biased. There was nothing available for those who are celiac that can’t have anything with carbonation. The bathroom situation was ridiculous. For those who had tickets on the floor you had to travel all the way to the top level to stand in line forever to get to the bathroom. Once finally getting to the washroom it was clouded with smoke from people smoking as well as no toilet paper left in the washroom. I stayed at the show for a total of one hour because I could not handle how much ridiculousness was being allowed. I am mad that I wasn’t able to enjoy my experience for the amount I paid to be there.

Moving the stage ruined my seats

by Greenr on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

The Glorious Sons were excellent, the venue was not. I purchased pre-sale seats that faced the stage and then when I arrived realized the stage was moved back to the other end of the stadium. This ruined our view. The only way we could see the stage was by the big screens. If I had known this I would not have purchased the tickets I did. 30 minutes + to get a beer and the same for the washroom was also not good. The venue was not prepared to have a show of this size.

    Exiting

by Exiting on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

Show was amazing. Exiting the stadium was a nightmare. We had general admission and when the concert ended there was only 1 exit and narrow stair for everyone from the field level to exit through. It was chaos and frankly scary standing in the middle of a frustrated mob of 5000 people. This was really poor planning. Glorious Sons were incredible. Great show, but the exiting at the stadium was really terrible after such a great show.

Great show, not so great location

by Rick on 9/24/19Richardson Memorial Stadium - Kingston

Great show, awesome openers! Waited 20 min for some overpriced beer which is not bad, BUT they really failed with the amount of washrooms available... I could only find 1 porta potty for the entire field area and then there was the facility bathrooms which were not made to handle such a large crowd which came with a 30 minute wait. Needless to say people were peeing everywhere, it was rather disgusting. End of rant.

    good times

by sweetpea on 3/1/19Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

loved the small venue really well controlled! we upgraded to the balcony and the seating was really nice lots of bar stools to sit on overlooking the stage. bathrooms small but really clean. It was my first time at saint Andrews Hall and would definitely go back again.only downside was waiting in line outside in the snow for 15 minutes before the line moved but all in all a good time.

    Awesome show A+++++

by Tina on 2/26/19Club XL - Harrisburg

The venue was easy to find with plenty of parking, very friendly helpful staff as well. The opener JJ Wilde was a rocking band, She really got the crowd pumped up for the rest of the show. The Glorious Sons once again put on an amazing rock show! They have never disappointed me. When I hear people say rock is dead I just think they are listening to the wrong bands. You can tell Brett and the entire band are very passionate about what they do and they love their fans as much as we love them. I would recommend seeing The Glorious Sons any chance you can!!

    Thought it would be better

by MetallicaRocker on 11/7/18Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

To be honest here, I thought it would have been a better show. For the Meet & Greet he is in flip flops and a freakin house coat. Like I took him away from a nap or something. Just did not get the feel he cared to be there. As for the show, it was OK. The back up and other band members sang better than him. Or at the very least I could hear them, lol. In short I will NOT see them again !!!!
