My son and I planned a day to go to the Genesis Open. We used to park at the hospital in Westwood, but this year it changed to Santa Monica. There were no signs or directions on where to park, and this experience could have been better. Everything else was fine. Shuttles to the course were good both going and the return trip. Looking forward to next year.
I, (with my family) attended our first Genesis Open in 2018. It has only taken 2 years for us to claim it our most favorite golf venue in the US. Here's a few reasons why: Clubhouse access tickets are actually great value. The Rivera Clubhouse itself is awesome, and the setup for food and entertainment provides the right vibe and spirit of the event. Secondly, the field for this event is always awesome and the weather usually plays up to the level of the field. The food service and options on the course are also pvaried and spot on. Finally, and probably most important is that the staff throughout the grounds are very helpful and friendly. Every person working this event from the time you step foot on Riviera until the time you leave is polite, and genuinely seem interested in making you feel great about being there. They seem a little too good to be true and are second to none when considering other golf staffs at venues that I've attended throughout the years. That's well played. My family is already asking are we going again next year - to which the answer is yes! One other thing to note, we noticed and appreciate the process improvements that we made from year to year with respect to crowd management and organization. Thank you for delivering a great tournament experience for all who attended.
i had a great time...i would like to see more retail tents, more brands selling clothes, hats etc. thank you
I attended on Friday and Sunday. In spite of weather challenges, I had a fabulous time at the Open. I attend annually. I arrived early on Sunday anticipating that the tournament would be carried over to Monday due to previous delays. Amazingly the PGA pulled-off a Sunday finish. A miracle!! The course was in wonderful condition even with the rains.
Not enough places to sit in the clubhouse. Food options very limited. Had a good time walking around the course.
Went Saturday and watched the end of the second round and beginning of third round. Course is magnificent and easy to walk. Food selections were OK. Biggest complaint was parking in Santa Monica. We left course and got to car at 445 and did not exit garage S6 until over an hour later.
Of course the weather was the story, and except for the premature start Thursday, the PGA handled it well. The only knock I have was the lack of info on the start of the 3rd round. There were no tee sheets available and the message boards were not accurate. Anyway, we will be back next year.
Love the intimacy of the Rivera Country Club. So many opportunities to get close to the pros. My grandson got a lot of autographs and high-fives. Outstanding field. Really enjoyed the military tent...love the way the Genesis honors veterans. Other than the Master's, this was my favorite golf tournament experience by far.
Great experience, got to see athletes up close. Family atmosphere with plenty of food and drink choices. It was nice to see all of the wonderful things the Tiger Woods foundation provides - it was great to support event in addition to seeing great golf
Need to spread out the food offerings. Maybe 4-5 hot dog carts spread throughout the course. Food truck lines were stupendous.
We had a great time at this year's Genesis Open. Although a bit chilly for the weekend rounds, we utilized the clubhouse access passes to have food and drinks in the clubhouse facilities, and took some pictures from the iconic balcony. Also, highly recommend the parking at Will Roger's State Park. The shuttle service was super comfortable.
Friday it was windy and rainy, But the match continued after being called due to rain on Thursday so we were treated to a round and a half; then same schedule for the final day Sunday! Great match great times!
The Genisis Open was a great experience! This was our first time at this event. The facility, amenities and volunteer staff were great. I would recommend this to golf and non-golf fans alike...
On Sunday February 18th at the Genesis Open, the two concession stands I visited to grab lunch had both run out of food (sandwiches, wraps, hot dogs, etc.) by 12:15 PM. This made a lot of fans upset. If Genesis wants to be perceived as a luxury car brand, it should ensure the concession operators provide a luxury experience (i.e., have enough food).
My husand took my son to this and they had a fantastic time watching the golf and enjoying the family area with great activities for kids. A million thanks to the Tiger Foundation for sponsoring this!!
This is the 3rd year my wife and I have attended this tournament which was formerly the Northern Trust tournament. The biggest issue I have with this tournament is if you stay all day, getting home on LA's miserable freeways is brutal. We live 65 miles South on the 405 freeway and it took us over 3 hours to get home. A buddy of mine that left at 5:00PM (an hour after me) took him 3.5 hours. Based on that alone, I'm not going back as the drive home is brutal. As for as the tournament, it is excellent. You can get up close without too much trouble unless you are following Tiger or some other really popular player. The one issue that none of these tournaments seem to be able to figure out is the food and beer. Lines are ridiculously long and typically 10 - 15 people deep. They could sell a lot more food and beer if they fix this.
I went on the Saturday. It was a well organized event for the most part, I will say it was disappointing to see some concession stands running out of Stella Artois beer and the food trucks out of food, right at lunch time too! But other than that the course was in great shape and there was a lot of great viewing spots to see the golfers in action. Such a beautiful spot for a tournament!
Watching the best golfers in the world was unforgettable. The venue was great and the weather perfect. My only complaint was the three and a half hours to drive home 50 miles. Next time I'll go on a weekend.
I have been going to this event for the past 5 years. I have to tell you the term low bidder certainly became a reality with this event. The shuttle service that was provided to the course was certainly reminiscent of Mr Toads wild ride. The buses were old public transportation buses that were converted to party buses. In horrible shape dirty with flashing disco lights. The bus used to go to the course had blacked out windows you could not see out. At the price of this event please at least get us there in a reasonable manner.
