About

The Fantasticks, the world's longest-running musical, is a captivating and simple romantic comedy about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall.  The audience uses its imagination to follow El Gallo as he creates a world of moonlight and magic, and then pain and disillusionment, until the boy and girl find their way back to one other.  The score, which includes "Try To Remember", "They Were You" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain", is as timeless as the story itself.  Having played a record-breaking 17,162 performances in its original run at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village,  and recently celebrated its 20,000th performance at the Snapple Theater Center, The Fantasticks is a true New York institution which The Wall Street Journal calls "THE PERFECT MUSICAL".

    Fantasticks still Fantastic!

by CincinnatiSheila on 3/15/11Snapple Theater - New York

It was one of those unforgettable Broadway experiences ...discovering the "Fantasticks" at the Orbach Theater. I was just blown away by the performances...Edward Watts as El Galo was mesmerising...impeccable timing! Juliette Trafton and Matt Leisy made "young love" believable and soooooooooo appealing. Finally - the two fathers, Dan Sharkey and Bill Bateman - superb! What a gem of a production! THANK YOU ALL.

    The Fantasticks is Fantastic

by DLFitzpatrick on 3/7/11Snapple Theater - New York

I may never see a big show again! The intimacy of this little show and the actors' cozy interactions with the audience made me want to see this show again and again. Loved the story, loved the comedy, loved Anne Markt, who was playing Luisa. I highly recommend this to everyone in New York who's looking for a show.

    The Fantasticks

by seethemall on 2/28/11Snapple Theater - New York

My daughter and I LOVED The Fantasticks. We are both theater geeks, and see a lot of shows. The only thing that was disappointing was the girl who played Luisa. But the rest of the cast were phenomenal...the singing was great, comic timing was perfect, and the show was sweet and heart warming. Much better than the movie. Yes, the set and props were simple, but it worked. The tiny theater was intimate, and we had a blast. In fact, I think we are going to go see it again....and bring friends this time!

    FABULOUS!!!! Highly Recommended!!!

by libcarmom on 2/22/11Snapple Theater - New York

I have seen many, many Broadway shows (both in NY and on tour) and I would HIGHLY recommend The Fantasticks- it is at the top of my "favorites" list. The cast was GREAT- We had a standby playing El Gallo and honestly, I don't see how the other actor could have been any better- WONDERFUL!!! I LOVED Gene Jones' portrayal of Hucklebee- his facial expressions made me laugh out loud! The actors playing Matt and Luisa were very, very talented- I'm sure they have bright futures on Broadway. It was a wonderful, intimate theatre and the actors were all "top drawer!" There are many other shows that are more publicized, get more hype, etc., but when you combine the unbelievable music, great actors and wonderful theatre- this is a "Must" for any theatre goer- especially at the price!!! I just can't thank the actors enough for a great evening!!! The house staff was also very nice. Don't miss it!!!!

    dated, but sort of cute

by malm1959 on 2/22/11Snapple Theater - New York

The first half of the play was cute, but the second half was not. It was a fun evening out, but you must know that the play is dated. There are times that I was ready to start laughing when it was not meant to be funny. However, it is not easy to find a play that the entire family can attend. My 16 year old thought it was good even though he is very critical. My 13 year old and 20 year old also enjoyed it. It is worth it if you can get half price tickets, don't pay full price.

    Fantastiks was FANTASTIC!

by jets69win on 2/20/11Snapple Theater - New York

This was a last second choice for a Valentine's Night out. It couldn't have been a more perfect valentine's play! There are no seats that are further than 20 feet from the performers. it felt like you were IN the play! The story was classic and as old as time. Boy loves girl, girl loves boy, and the parents are against it (...or so we thought). The music was wonderful and so well performed by the cast. The comedy was hilarious and extremely relatable by EVERYONE...especially parents. It was clear why the play has been a big hit since the 1960's! Go see it!

    Lovely Afternoon Event

by NJMOM18 on 2/19/11Snapple Theater - New York

This is an old fashioned, but completely delightful play for 2011. The actors worked hard at perfecting their craft and completely succeeded in transforming the stage into a beautiful creation of acting art. El Gallo, played by understudy Charles West, was certainly the strongest character of the play. His baritone voice and stage presence were most enjoyable. The puckish character, Mortimor, played by Michael Nostrand was entertaining and added a light hearted mood to a subject that could have become dark humor. He was a convincing foil to El Gallo and to Henry, the old actor. With its simple set and costumes, this is a play that relies on the acting to convey the beauty of this uncomplicated story. The actors totally succeeded in accomplishing their goal. The only thing to be improved on ..... a little quieter on the piano, please, so as not to drown out the actors' voices.

    Simply Fantastic!

by krm425 on 2/15/11Snapple Theater - New York

The Fantasticks really are fantastic. Being the oldest running show on Broadway this story of true love never gets old. This was my second time seeing this play and I must say I was blown away yet again. The theater is small, but its very intimate and personal and the cast interacts frequently with the audience (I was even sat on by a cast member!). Although, I've heard that some people don't like this play, I really can't imagine why. You can tell how hard the cast works at delivering a magical performance and it truly is magical. I really recommend this show for anyone who is looking for a play that has romance, comedy, and a truly good message about life and REAL love. I can't wait to see this play again!

    Should be outlawed

by mchk on 2/9/11Snapple Theater - New York

It is a shame that such a third rate amateur production should go on in the proximity of Broadway. Adding insult to injury the 76.50 dollars that they shamefacedly charge for this pathetic farce, are more than I paid last week to see the brilliant Billy Elliott production. I feel sorry for the unsuspecting tourists that get caught in this trap, mislead into thinking they will be seeing a "musical".

    Great family freindly show

by Jhbrk on 2/6/11Snapple Theater - New York

This is the second time my wife and I have seen The Fantasticks at the Snapple Theater. This time we brought our 10 year old daughter with us. Needless to say we love the show and so did she. There are not many shows you can comfortable take your 10 year old to but this one. The show is simple so don't expext the glitz of Phantom or you will be dissapointed. This show is all about the story in an intimate setting that parents can see with their kids and not cringe at.

The cast seemed to enjoy the performance and it is a fun performance. I think it was well cast, and most of the characters are endearing. Some were better singers than others but overall this is a classic musical and it is great that it is still on broadway.

    The Fantasticks was fantastic

by BigBux on 1/31/11Snapple Theater - New York

We saw the Fantasticks last Saturday night with friends. While I had heard of the show for years, I was only dimly aware of the music and book. I was totally blown away by the music, story and acting. It's no wonder that the Fantasticks has been so durable. I recommend this show to anyone who loves the musical theatre.

    "simply" fantastik!

by touristintown on 1/9/11Snapple Theater - New York

If you are looking for a quaint, pretty, and intimate performance then this is for you. I really enjoyed the simplicity of this production, it was personal and real. I felt as if the actors were speaking to me and only me. The cast was wonderful, I enjoyed watching their relationships unravel before my eyes. The blocking was simple and poetic. I would recommend this show for a romantic date on a the town. And if you are single, El Gallo is a very seductive character who will woo you with his humor and charm. He is also not bad on the eyes :)

The small theater and cast make you feel like you are part of the show. From the talent to the ticket booth, this show was unforgettable. I'll probably go back...again.
