About

The Fantasticks, the world's longest-running musical, is a captivating and simple romantic comedy about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall.  The audience uses its imagination to follow El Gallo as he creates a world of moonlight and magic, and then pain and disillusionment, until the boy and girl find their way back to one other.  The score, which includes "Try To Remember", "They Were You" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain", is as timeless as the story itself.  Having played a record-breaking 17,162 performances in its original run at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village,  and recently celebrated its 20,000th performance at the Snapple Theater Center, The Fantasticks is a true New York institution which The Wall Street Journal calls "THE PERFECT MUSICAL".

Talented cast in funny, sweet play!

by speechprof on 4/4/17The Theater Center - New York

We really enjoyed the Fantasticks - the cast, consisting of new and seasoned actors, was fantastic (literally) - great singers and actors. The intimate theater provided a great setting for this story. The only drawback we noted was that the theater is rather run down - seats torn and taped, etc. However, you forget that quickly when the show begins.

    Memories

by Harporbust on 1/16/17The Theater Center - New York

I love this show. I was the harpist in this show in the mid-80s as an understudy and substitute. It was an experience I will never forget. I. performed it many times all with Lore Noto. Margery Fitts, The current harpist in the show, is a long time and dear friend. The performers were exactly what is required by Tom and Harvey

    Really good acting bored storyline

by blueeyebratt on 1/2/17The Theater Center - New York

Three in out group and three different reviews of this play… My older son who is 22 absolutely enjoyed it he is a theater major he love the singing he love the acting he love the directing he love the show all together… My 15-year-old the first act kept him in thralled the second act board him to death… It didn't help that the man next to him fell asleep on him… As for me the acting was really good there were some comical act in it that I enjoyed the singing was phenomenal especially of the leads… The theater is quaint but not too small way you could stretch your legs… We did this on a whim and got tickets half-price… Something to do when we went to the city… When I go see it again no… But I recommended decent afternoon… Maybe I would see something a little different

    It never gets old

by Panosum on 12/20/16The Theater Center - New York

I first saw this play when I was 18 years old. I guess I was on the September end of the story. Now in my early 70s it only helps me remember my youth - even though I'm now on the December end. The cast is amazing; the songs are timeless; and the little theater is the perfect setting for this style of a play. Luisa in particular was a joy to behold - young, innocent, yet with a voice of an opera star.

The show was perfect. Mixed with humor and romance it makes a great first experience for anyone who has never been to an off broadway performance.keep in mind the auditorium is very small so no matter where you sit you will have a great view.

    The Fantasticks was great!

by Lindylee33 on 12/14/16The Theater Center - New York

The show was amazing and the cast members were incredibly talented! They made me laugh and cry, it was everything I could have hoped for and more! The theater is small and there's not a bad seat in the house. I would definitely recommend seeing this show to anyone who wants an intimate and memorable performance for a reasonable price in New York City.

The play is a classic, and was a great thrill to have Lorenzo Lamas appear in this production. I could have purposely bumped into him but didn't.

    Great surprise

by briann1959 on 11/14/16The Theater Center - New York

Finding Lorenzo Lamas staring in the play was the best surprise. The play itself is fun and entertaining in a very intimate setting, having him star was truly the best surprise of all....

Sappy? Yes, and I loved it.

by Harkini on 10/29/16The Theater Center - New York

This is a cozy little theatre with a bare stage- none of the flashy glamour you'll see at a big splashy Broadway production. I caught the show while Lorenzo Lamas was playing El Gallo, and he was delightful. Who knew he had such a gorgeous singing voice? I genuinely loved the entire cast, each of whom brought warmth, charm & joy to the stage. There are mentions of rape and a stereotypical Indian characterization that might make you cringe. Also, there are moments when the show is maudlin and sappy, but I really enjoyed its sentimentality. I thought the show was terrifically fun, and I recommend it.

    Flat

by JashAne on 10/12/16The Theater Center - New York

The four of us, one of us who saw five other productions, couldn't wait until it was over. Two of us fell asleep. After the show was over, we all had the same opinion: The show was at best on a high school level. Save your hard earned dollars on this one. There are too many wonderful shows out there to see.

    Four Thumbs Up!

by Mingster on 10/4/16The Theater Center - New York

My husband and I really enjoyed the play. When I first saw the stage with the curtain, I said to myself this is not going to be good. Well, I was so pleasantly surprised ... no need to have all the bells and whistles and a huge orchestra. The actors were wonderful, especially Ms. Parks. You get so caught up in the story. Highly recommend this, would love to have all the sisters and sister in laws all go one day.

    Mixed Feelings

by Mixedfeelings123 on 9/21/16The Theater Center - New York

I hadn't seen this play in 25 years and was really excited about seeing it again. My girlfriend had her own motivation for going, to see Peter from the T.V. show she'd been watching as a kid. We were both initially disappointed by the theater, very small stage and very low ceilings. However, the actors went on to doing a good job utilizing the space they had. The seating was also kind of tight, old, and a little uncomfortable. The acting was excellent, the singing and music was a little less than spectacular. I recalled being really moved 25 years ago by the performances, and kind of just entertained this time around, not really moved. The two guys who did the "comic relief" were not funny to most people in the audience. The two young lovers were excellent, both were fantastic, the two fathers were great too. Peter who played the narrator, was much better at acting than singing. Overall, mixed feeling.
