    Earls of Leicester was amazing!

by BluegrassFan01 on 9/17/18U.S. Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

The Earls of Leicester were amazing, the band was incredibly tight, great sound, and incredibly talented. However, the opening act, I could’ve done without, not to be rude, but I could’ve got up there and sang and played my guitar and put on a better show than that poor guy. He had no stage presence, music was random, and to me he was just another guy who randomly could play an instrument and somewhat sing, I was let down after sitting through the opening act. Luckily the Earls turned it around.

great show. One of the best bluegrass shows we have attended. Also the theatre was really beautiful. It was our first time there. Would definitely recommend the Earls of Leicester to anyone. Will definitely go see them whenever we can. We live an hour and a half away and it was worth the trip.

Earls Of Leicester -- A Throwback Group

by UmpChap on 9/5/18Birchmere - Alexandria

The name of the group is not very subtle to Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, one of bluegrass music's seminal groups. I was fortunate to have seen Flatt and Scruggs in a concert at Cornell University's Bailey Hall when I was home from college. I think it was around Christmas of 1963 but I could have the year wrong. The Earls Of Leicester faithfully, painstakingly, replicate not only the sound of Flatt & Scruggs but also the attire and choreography. The group was put together by Jerry Douglas, the best dobro player ever. Douglas could easily dominate the solos but he seems content to stay back and play the part that Josh Graves played with Flatt & Scruggs. (Douglas does rip off a couple of totally astounding solos, however.) This concert at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA is easily in the top handful of bluegrass concerts I've seen, ranking up there with a mid-1990s Ralph Stanley concert, the Del McCoury Band, and my favorite, Alison Krauss and Union Station with Tony Rice. The Birchmere continues to be a top notch venue. They manage to start seating people at 6:00 PM and get folks mostly fed before the show starts at 7:30 PM. Food is decent if not inspired. You'll be able to find something on the menu you'll like.

One of the best shows, ever!

by Banjov on 9/5/18Birchmere - Alexandria

The Earls of Leicester are billed as a Flatt and Scruggs tribute band. They did not disappoint! From the superb instrumental skills of the musicians to the tight harmonies, it was like listening to Flatt and Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, not a band just covering their music. The only exception to the rule was that Dobroist, Jerry Douglas, one of the leaders of this project, added quite a bit more “pizazz” than Josh Graves would have! This is not only forgivable, but welcome! I’ve been coming to the Birchmere for about 15 years and this was one of the best shows I’ve seen!zz

    The Earls were Awesome!!

by KoleKatt on 2/27/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The venue was great. I got seats dead center about 10 rows back in the orchestra. At first, the mic for the banjo player was crackling for about three songs but it got fixed. Other than that, the sound was fantastic. I do not normally listen to bluegrass music but am familiar with the genre through my late father who was a fan of Jerry Douglas. My wife really like the Earls which is who I got the tickets for. Every song was a toe-tapper and a head-bobber. Great banter between all the players made it an enjoyable evening.

    The Earls

by Wolf63 on 2/25/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Fantastic performance!! It was as though Flatt and Scruggs had been reincarnated. Jerry Douglas is the best on Dobro. Took my 84 year old Mother and she so enjoyed. Get a chance to go do it I intend to see again.

True Bluegrass Brought Back to Life

by EvaDiane on 2/25/18Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Jerry Douglas has recreated the "true sound of bluegrass". This show takes the most extreme talent in the industry and combines their talent and energy which displays to the audience the closest thing to the reincarnation of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs music that will ever exist. The show was an hour and a half. I simply got lucky and landed front row center stage tickets! This was by far the best show I have seen in a long time. If you love True bluegrass, this group is a must see! The group then did a "meet and greet", signed autographs, and took pictures with fans. They are the most incredibly talented group in bluegrass!+

    Classic music, great band

by gtcamper on 2/18/18Carolina Theatre - Durham

The lead singer, Shawn Camp does a remarkable job on Lester Flatt’s leads for this cover band of Flatt & Scruggs music. Jerry Douglas has pulled together a remarkable cast that comprises the Earls of Leicester and they entertain from start to finish.
