About

Helmed by drummer Brian Viglione and singer/songwriter/pianist Amanda Palmer, the punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls have attained legendary status with their darkly original song-craft and visceral, no-holds-barred live shows. Blending performance art and politics with an array of sonic and lyrical influences from The Doors and Black Sabbath to Lotte Lenya and Nina Simone, the pair reaped global attention for creating a uniquely cathartic sound and vision all their own. Three studio albums 2003's self-titled debut and 2006's YES, VIRGINIA..., and 2008's NO, VIRGINIA earned International critical praise, hailing The Dresden Dolls' distinctive work as both deeply unsettling yet remarkably accessible.

After a long needed hiatus and countless solo and side-projects later (Viglione drummed for NIN and Violent Femmes; Palmer wrote a best-selling book and broke crowdfunding records), The Dresden Dolls are back at work and slowly building towards the creation of their fourth studio album and their first full global tour in almost two decades.

    Awesome show

by Mark on 12/13/23The Observatory North Park - San Diego

An amazing show. Amanda and Brian are excellent musicians. They played a long set, ( over 2 hours) , lots of old music and newer stuff and also, some brand new music that hasn’t been released yet. Also, The House of Blues is one of my favorite venues, it has one of the best sound systems in San Diego ( maybe the best). Anyway, all in all, an awesome night.

    Sound Explosion

by Ang on 12/12/23The Observatory North Park - San Diego

I’ve seen AFP a few times solo and Brian playing with various other bands but I’ve never seen the two together until tonight. It was like the unstoppable force met the immovable object and created a super nova of musical fun. I loved the new music. I loved that we had to put away our phones and just be in the moment. I loved War Pigs. If you are considering going to see this show just forget any hesitations you have and clicky the “buy ticket” button. 🫶

    Amazing Show!

by FlamingAxes on 12/11/23The Belasco - Los Angeles

Absolutely gorgeous theater! I was so pleased at the ADA experience despite the show being standing room only. We had a small section roped off and a few chairs. I was able to navigate my walker just fine. The downstairs bathroom was easily accessible. The Dresden Dolls performed an absolutely amazing show. Heartfelt, energetic and soul healing. The fans are a loving community I'm proud to be a part of. This is an intimate experience and simply a beautiful evening in a gorgeous place. The sound quality was excellent. The show was entertaining and we all loved seeing Amanda surprise us doing a song from the balcony.

Who says indie can’t do big.

by Berlinbob on 10/30/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

Found this club to be a great size with a good accompanying atmosphere. Drink prices were okay compared to the other venues we had visited in our short NYC visit. But hey, the Dresden Dolls , we’ve listened to them in Berlin also on the radio , but we weren’t expecting this. 3 hours of bundled energy and riotous interaction with the crowd ( sometimes a bit long winded) that resulted in smiles all round and a feeling of hope to see you again and soon.

    Amazing as usual

by imperfectjenny on 10/28/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

The Dresden Dolls put on an amazing show as usual. They played 7 new songs which was an unexpected surprise, but a very welcome one. Their energy and connection throughout the show was unlike any band I've seen before. I loved how they engaged with the audience. Everything about the show was perfect.

Concert was great, venue was an icebox

by Les on 10/28/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

Had to leave early from a great concert because the air conditioning was set to arctic levels, and I felt my throat tightening in a pre-sickness clench.

Great venue and great duo! The two of them make enough noise to sound like a full band. Super high energy!

    So good!

by Cupcake Crusader on 5/24/23Ophelia's Electric Soapbox - Denver

One of the best shows I've been to, for sure. I was a little nervous I wouldn't be able to see with the way the venue is set up, but I found a ledge to stand on and didn't miss anything. The Dresden Dolls were incredible and I was so thankful to finally be able to see them after loving them for close to two decades. And the sound quality!! The sound guy deserves all the high fives. I don't know how he was able mix the audio well enough with Amanda banging loudly on a keyboard and Brian wailing on the drums, but he absolutely nailed it. It was better mixed and better mixed than some of their albums. To summarize: the show was perfect. I look forward to them doing a proper tour and hopefully seeing them again, a bit closer to home.

    Concert of the decade

by TrueWill on 5/23/23Ophelia's Electric Soapbox - Denver

The Dresden Dolls gave one of the best performances I have ever seen from any band. Great sound? Check. Connection with the audience? Check. Entertaining? Check. Incredibly talented? Check! They did not disappoint long-time fans or people new to the band. They added some fun, well-done covers in addition to old and new material. There was no opener and no encore, both of which I appreciated. One long, excellent set. Both Ms. Palmer and Mr. Viglione poured their hearts and souls into the show. Ophelia's was a great venue for this. The crowd was energetic but generally well-behaved.

    A wonderful show

by Joyful on 5/23/23Ophelia's Electric Soapbox - Denver

I always love seeing the Dresden Dolls, and this show was no exception! I really enjoyed the small venue as well. Both Brian and Amanda were amazing, I loved watching the way they communicate with each other, they love each other, they love what they're doing, and they love us. Long live The Dresden Dolls!

    Incredible Passion

by Anonymous on 11/15/17Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This. Show. Was. Amazing. We'd seen the Dresdon Dolls before but this smaller venue was far more conducive to an intimate dialog. Amanda and Brian were, as always, incredibly passionate. Their music is one thing - raw lyrics and stimulating rhythms behind that intense rock energy engage you. Their performance is another thing - interaction with the crowd and each other, facial expression, and improvisation mesmerize you. Their humanity is a totally separate being - the focus on community, individuality, and acceptance warm you. To anyone who's ever thought of seeing them. Do it. Just go.

The Dresden Dolls AT&T their Burlesque Best!

by Rinakins on 9/7/16Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk - Brooklyn

There are no words for how amazing this show was. Amanda's mastery of the jazz piano and her unique vocals left me in awe. While, Brian's power house drumming, as usual, elevated the dark Burlesque Jazz to straight up punk. I have been following them since the early 2000s, and yet the element of coney island, the reunion of two musical soul mates, and war pigs, so appropriately, closing out the show gave me chills all over my body and soul.
