About

Pioneering indie folk musicians David Wax & Suz Slezak are the plucky husband-wife duo behind the eclectic, exuberant "Mexo-Americana" band David Wax Museum. Their newest album Remember My Future, produced by Alec Spiegelman (Okkervil River, Kevin Morby), is a collection of 11 homespun postmodern gems. The band's genre-defying, shapeshifting personality is on full display from the more downtempo, nuanced songs to the boisterous and bombastic, making it obvious how a band with this kind of breadth has comfortably shared the stage with acts as diverse as The Avett Brothers, Latin legends Los Lobos & Buena Vista Social Club, and indie darlings Gregory Alan Isakov and Watchhouse.

Pre-pandemic, the ascendant band was enjoying newfound success with their 2019 first label release Line of Light (on Austin's award-winning Nine Mile Records), a national TV debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday, and 3 distinct features on NPR's World Cafe. They built bridges performing at the wedding of Democratic presidential hopeful (now Transportation Secretary) Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten--and then in 2021 their plaintive ballad "Big Sur" debuted during the marriage scene on Netflix #1 show, Firefly Lane. First reaching national acclaim with a show-stopping debut at the Newport Folk Festival, the band has built a reputation around energetic, heartfelt live shows and sonically adventurous albums that fly the worldly flag for a brand of Americana that reaches far beyond our borders.

    Soundboard Blues

by AvisponSordo on 4/14/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

David Wax Museum put on a very good show, but I really came to see hometown (LA) La Santa Cecilia. First song great and then the sound manager decided to crank it 14 on the dial. The vocals were lost in a bass so strong that the carpet vibrated along with everything else. The sound was only acceptable for those that had already blown out their ear drums. Gave up after three songs. Definitely a bummer, but don't get me wrong. LISTEN to La Santa Cecilia...they are A-1 great...just need some who knows how to manage a soundboard.

David Wax Museum + La Santa Cecilia = Unbelievable

by Silverock on 4/14/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Both groups provided an extraordinary experience into Mexican/ Folk New Wave Music taking the instruments of a traditional music and making it their own contemporary sound, giving the audience an explosive reason to move. La Marisoul is on her way to making history as the new voice of Latino heartfelt music!!!

    David Wax Museum

by Wingman on 1/11/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

Great show, but, the vocals were mixed low. I've only attended one other show at this venue and the mix was great then, so, I'm a little disappointed - but not by the musicians.

    David Wax Museum comes home!

by MassDawg on 12/6/12Royale Boston - Boston

David, Suz and company were in good form! Though the event changed venues, it was communicated effectively via email and the DWM Facebook page. The band sounded great, and though we missed the opening act, I was happy to have the chance to hear them on stage during the DWM set and for a number out among the audience. DWM is a high-energy, highly enjoyable show... every time!

I've seen these guys many times and yes, they keep getting better. The horn section added a new dimension to the performance. A high energy band that always gets the audience moving.

DWM puts on a fantastic show, no doubt. I love the way they make use of all spaces and encourage audience interaction. Arlington Street Church is a beautiful place and the acoustics were terrific though the large columns did make for some visibility issues. Also, it's a little awkward trying to move about the pews and I feel like there would have been more dancing and audience participation if not for these restrictions. All in all though, these guys do a fantastic job and they are just beautiful souls, so humble and appreciative of their success. I would definitely see them again.

David Wax Museum is great. The sponsoring organization could do a better job promoting and delivering a quality event - inform ticket purchasers of an opening act; publicize the start time correctly; open doors when you say they'll be open.
