    OLD SCHOOL DOO WOP CONCERT

by LiverpoolSteve on 5/12/14Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

For the ticket price, it was disappointing. Paid a high price for a mediocre show.

    Rockin' to the Oldies

Excellent for bringing back memories of yesteryear

Very enjoyable show. My only complaint is that they advertised that the Platters were performing and they did not. To me that is false advertising as that was the main reason I took my mom.

    DOO WOP was the best

    by m100 on 5/12/14Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

This was a great show. All the groups were on their game and put on a memorable show. The Chiffons brought back some wonderful memories and the Teenagers wowed us with their dancing. The Tokens put on quite a show involving the audience making us feel that the show was about us. What a great night.

    Brought back memories!

by WildOkie on 4/23/14Global Event Center at WinStar World Casino and Resort - Thackerville

All three groups were full of energy and appeared to still live performing! They sang all the hits. Can't wait until I see them again! Only complaint is The Coasters always sing "Lucy Brown" instead of "Charlie Brown". Wish they'd be true to the song.

    good for the price

by Maidenman on 4/6/14Winstar Casino - Thackersville

Last Sunday I continued with what is becoming sort of a regular thing. My daughter and I headed off to the casino show room for a Sunday afternoon show and then used some of my free rooms to spend the night. They book in older acts for 3pm shows charge low prices, so it’s a good value. This time we saw The Coasters, Drifters and Dixie Cups. $10 tickets and we were able to move to 5th row, not a bad deal! The Dixie Cups are best known for their hits “Chapel of Love” and “Iko Iko”. They opened the show with a 20 minute set that included these songs a couple of other and they finished up with God bless America and When the Saint Go Marching In. These ladies are in their 70’s I think, but 2 of the 3 are still original members so I thought that was cool. The harmonized well and they were better than I expected. 20 minutes was appropriate and just enough. This was my 5th time to see a “version” of the Drifters. It’s really more of a tribute band, or better yet a “franchise”. I was in Vegas once and there were 3 different versions of the Drifters playing in town at the same time. I saw 2 of them-ha! There have been as many as 7 different versions worldwide. As long as you do not expect any original members and you what you are getting its fine. These guys were entertaining. They ran through most of the hits. (save the last dance for me, this magic moment, up on a roof, under the boardwalk, broadway, there goes my baby) they though a cover of what a wonderful world. I guess they played 40 minutes. The Coasters closed out the show. There are 2 or 3 version of the band as well. No originals that I know of are in any of the versions. Thye often bicker as to whom has the real rights to the name, with one version posting the judge’s decision on their website. Yet these guys still put on high energy show with a lot dancing and audience interaction. I actually like more of the Drifters material but the right band headlined. Yakety yak, Charlie Brown, Poison Ivy were the biggest hits but they also included some covers such as Love Potion Number 9 and Shake Rattle and Roll. A 45-50 minutes set that was just right for what they had. My daughter and I danced and sang along with many of the songs and had a very good time. After the show was over we got to meet the Dixie Cups and Coasters and got autographs. Then we had dinner and watched Disney dvds in the free hotel room. The hotel they have is very nice. A good reason to take Monday off! Even got a free breakfast at their Paris Café The Winstar casino has a very nice show room. It also has an entrance right by the show room so we can walk right in with having to through much of the casino. I am planning on taking her to see an Elvis impersonator this summer.

    Oldies at Winstar

by Phantombobber on 4/2/14Global Event Center at WinStar World Casino and Resort - Thackerville

Very good show. Brought back many memories of the 50's and 60's. It was nice that there wasn't much setup time between each group.

    Good, but not great

by BillandShirley on 4/2/14Global Event Center at WinStar World Casino and Resort - Thackerville

The show advertised The Platters, but they were not there. the Dixie Cups were good, but only sang about 3 songs, and they were the originals. the Drifters were good. the Coasters were OK, but did not sing many of their original Coasters songs. Overall, music and band was good. Hand a good time hearing all the old songs.

    The show was forgettable

by Natmanw on 4/2/12Anderson Theater - Marietta

The Marvelettes were terrible, they did not even sound like the original goup.. There were no original members for any of the groups in the show.. Some of the entertainers looked like kids. I would have not went to the show if I knew there would be no original members.

    Oldies Rock

by seching on 8/28/09Hawaii Convention Center - Honolulu

Coasters, Platters and Drifters were AMAZING! I went to Drifters' concert last time they came to Hawaii and they were amazing alone, but all three groups together, I don't have any word to describe how good they were. Simply AMAZING! Anyone who missed it or wasn't sure they wanted to go? What are you thinking? Go, go, go! Please! I would say one down point. Nothing to do with the act. I bought VIP seats, and there were not enough seats ready at the convention center. It wasn't even assign. Little up-set about no professionalism on event holder, but event it self was AMAZING!

    Enjoyed!

by nmmm on 8/26/09Hawaii Convention Center - Honolulu

Enjoyed the evening! + 1. Groups were great! 2. In the front third row great seat! 3. Drinks and snacks were a great plus! - 1. Moving seats into the front space for late comers was a major annoyance!

Great Show! Management of seating HORRIBLE

by Bill38 on 8/25/09Hawaii Convention Center - Honolulu

The performers were all seasoned troopers who presented exactly what one would expect. My wife also thoroughly enjoyed the show even though some of the earlier hits were unknown to her (she's Japanese, and Elvis, Paul Anka and Neal Sadaka were big there in the 50s). BUT, if the event is scheduled at the Honolulu Convention Center I wouldn't recommend buying anything but the cheapest seats. They have absolutely no control over seating, so buy a cheap seat and sit wherever you like.

    Intermissions

by gotajob on 8/23/09Hawaii Convention Center - Honolulu

Now that the age of the crowd is getting up there, for these type of shows, there should be more intermissions. Us older guys need to take bathroom breaks more often! - ) Now that the groups are getting older, I notice that their "moves" are not as clean and crisp as they were 50 years ago. I'm glad the lead singers are all under 30 yrs. old, the old guys would not make it through the whole show if they tried to carry the leads. LOL

by Nolie on 8/22/09Hawaii Convention Center - Honolulu

GREAT!!!!! So glad to hear and be able to understand the lyrics! The local back up band did a fantastic job. Hope these all time great entertainers will continue to remember there are aLOT of us oldies, but goodies here in Honolulu and bring their music to us more often.
