Wonderful venue, phenomal musicians, a perfect night.

This was a perfect musical evening! My neighbor and I, both refusing to let anything get between us and our favorite bands drove from Baltimore to Alexandria during rush hour! The good news is that my neighbor had all of the best Church tunes blaring in the car as I drove through traffic. Believe it or not it helped. The venue was excellent! The Birchmere is the quintessential music venue, no frills, great acoustics, great food, great drinks, great people. The Church was ON! The tones were perfect the rhythm was captivating....AMEN.

This was a really wonderful show. The venue was perfect. Very small and intimate. Location was easy to get to and plenty of places to park and eat. I would highly recommend it. Seeing The Church made for a truly memorable evening. It was a longer than usual concert but that was a bonus. It meant hearing and seeing them for a longer period of time. A++++++

After being a fan of the band fro many years i was very happy to finally see them in person. They certainly made it worth the wait! Old songs, new songs and everything in between, all played beautifully.

The Church put on a fun show with oldies but goodies and newer pieces too. But I miss Marty Willson-Piper -- he was always so gleeful playing live. Ian plays Marty's bits well and then some. I guess I gotta let the past be the past.

Still one of the greatest guitar bands ever! Highly recommend to all!

Great show but they should have played more of Starfish

How The Church played in such a small venue was great for the audience! They weren't in a hurry to get back on the road even though they were playing the following night in Brooklyn. Great sets, Great show!

I saw living legends, The Church last night. No Marty Wilson Piper, but the Powderfinger guy was good and Peter Koppes tore it up. Kilbey was a distinguished gentleman taking the audience by the hand and with a balance of debonair and ham led us through their rich career. I’m new to them and have been sifting through their first few albums after only owning Heyday and Starfish, so I was excited to hear whatever they wanted to play for me. I would have asked for Tristesse and Unguarded Moment, but I was thrilled with what I got.

Really loved the venue. Small and really enjoyed the intimacy there. But I was waiting for songs from Starfish album and only got one song..very disappointing since I came all the way from Florida for the show.. I wish bands would play their popular stuff instead of stuff from an album no one heard of..

THE STAFF WAS GREAT, THE SPACE VERY INTIMATE. THE PEOPLE ALSO ALMOST CIVILIZED (FOR A CONCERT THEY WERE VERY POLITE). PRICES WERE FAIR AND THE SHOW WAS AMAZING. I LOVED THIS PLACE AND OF COURSE, I DID NOT EXPECT LESS FROM THE CHURCH.

This is not the The Church without Marty. Sorries to Steve and his ego. Not necessarily the band's fault, but the sound was muddy and WAY too loud for this small venue. The Church's music is subtle, detailed and profound. Not best when blasted at a gazillion decibels.

The Church are always astounding. Their music is original, layered, mesmerizing. Peter Koppes is the best musician on the planet, Steve Kilbey a brilliant lyricist and vocalist while Tim Powles a genius of indefatigable energy.

I really would have enjoyed this concert more had there been more seating. Just to have the option to go sit down for a few minutes would have made this more enjoyable. I guess what it comes down to is older band, older patrons, so older legs and backs.....Maybe I should just stop rockin'. Overall I really like the venue and your restaurant is amazing!!

The band played none of their hits. they were totally "Blah". Venue was great.

Thursday night marked my first time seeing The Church live...I've been a fan since 2003's "Forget Yourself," and have only caught up on their expansive discography within the last few years (the original CD releases, by the way, sound way better than the recently remastered material). It also was my first time at The Sinclar, a great little club in Cambridge that has both Jack's Abbey Smoke & Dagger and Allagash White on tap. The opening the band, The Sharp Things, was disappointing (think "windy folk songs"), but by the time The Church hit the stage, the place was pretty packed...they opened with what "Is This Where You Live," and played a total 19 songs over two hours. I'd say the highlights, for me, were the hits: "Reptile," "Myrrh," and "Under the Milky Way." But it was clear the re-chartered band, with its new guitarist, aren't a nostalgia act...they played quite a few songs off their new album "Further/Deeper": "Vanishing Man" and "Laurel Canyon" were show standouts. The band's sound is in no way dated, Steve Kilbey's on-stage energy was enjoyable to watch, and it's fair to say The Church's brand of psychedelic rock is as relevant today as ever. Hopefully the come back to Boston soon!

Didn't know what to expect, only familiar with the album Priest=Aura and the song Under the Milkyway... The lead singer was bouncing, kicking, running all over the stage, his voice is captivating, lyrics are beautiful, his passion and energy infected the whole crowd... I was constantly checking the crowds reactions around me, everybody was smiling, singing and jumping up and down the whole time. Drummer was tighter than tight, keyboardist/ backup bass and guitarist looked really young but he was spot on. Lead singer also did a lot of bass playing- manhandled the instrument even during the slower tunes... Like he was born with a Fender in his hands! Overall one of the best concerts this drummer has ever seen!

My wife and I have seen the Church several times over the years. This show was one of the best we have seen. Kilby was on fire for most of the night. A great mix of old and new songs. The Sinclair is somewhat of a small venue, but able enough to showcase this great band.

IF THE TITLE TO MY REVIEW IS NOT ENOUGH, THEN LET ME ADD TO IT, PLEASE! THIS SHOW WAS SO DISAPPOINTING ON EVERY LEVEL … IN FACT, IT WAS PLAIN HORRIBLE! THEIR SET LIST SHOULD BE MADE PUBLIC SO THAT EVERY FAN UNDERSTANDS THAT THEY WILL NOT HEAR ANY OLD SCHOOL CHURCH TUNES. NEVER AGAIN … !!!!!!!

What a pleasure to finally see the Church after all these years. Was I a big fan from the beginning? Not really. But Starfish and Priest always held a special place in my collection. Friends have seen them acoustic over the past few years and spoke highly, but I really wanted to hear them electric. Well they ddi not disapoint. The musicianship was solid. Piper and Koppes are so comfortable with each other. No guitar egos here. Just two guys who enjoy playing off each other. Piper STILL kicks that riff from N,S E, W. Not sure how Kilbey played bass on that guitar for most of Priest but it sounded solid. He IS the Disillusionist! That was a show stopping renditioin. I saw 3 great shows last summer and don't take this the wrong way, but the Church would have been an excellent opener for any of the Spoon, Arcade Fire or Pavement shows. They more than hold their own with any of those bands and it would have been a great chance to broaden their audience. These guys deserve to be seen by more folks. Anyone who saw this show would agree with that. Someone get out there and get these guys booked. The Church coming out and playing an hour of rotating best of sets would be incredible. But hey what do I know. Enjoy, and Thanks CHURCH!
