Prog is back with psychedelic this masterpiece!

by Enumclaw Ed on 10/1/23Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Hypnogogue is the best new concept album in decades. The new album with classics by the band for 2.5 hours with an intermission was a feast for the senses. Great light show. Took 4-5 songs for the sound man to get it right and right it was. You could feel the bass notes coming through your seat. I was in the balcony and I found at later when I saw him on the statue that Steve Kilby had been standing in the aisle talking to me asking what I thought of the band. Fabulous song writing coupled with early Pink Floyd esque extended space guitar jams made this the best show I have seen’

    3 hour set?

by Casey on 10/1/23Neptune Theatre - Seattle

They were incredible. The new songs are epic. The old songs still resonate. They excel in a live setting where the music can morph and flow. See them if you used to like them, and give the new album a chance to familiarize yourself with it.

Highly recommend that you see them live

    by d. d. on 6/26/23

I've seen them 4X here in the States, Detroit, they are fantastic. Some idiot booked them at a terrible tiny venue, the Magic Stick, but that was the manager's fault. They really are an unusual band, Kilby's head is full of so much material it amazes me. Stephen is by far one of the best writers/story tellers. I've been following the band and Stephen since the '80's. Highly recommend that you see them live.

Very good show; Kilbey in fine form

by DaBear on 4/9/23Birchmere - Alexandria

This was my first time hearing The Church live, and I was not disappointed. Steve Kilbey was in good spirits, and went on some extended monologues between songs; some pretty loopy stuff, but you can definitely see where the music was coming from. The lineup is new; drummer Tim Powles had "visa issues," so a new recruit was in the drummer's seat, but the music did not seem to suffer. It was interesting to see how newly-promoted Jeffrey Cain (formerly of Remy Zero and a Kilbey side project, Isidore) fit into the mix. The sound was a little muddy, but a three-guitarist attack was probably going to go there anyway (and I was seated house left, so it might have been situational). Overall, well worth the trip to the Birchmere in Alexandria on a hot Spring evening.

Great mix of old & new songs. The performance was outstanding! Loved seeing them at the Birchmere again....felt like they were playing every song for me. Can't wait for them to come back around.

    Wow, incredible show!

by Bruce on 4/7/23Birchmere - Alexandria

The Church is awesome! This is the second time I’ve seen them and they played for over 2 1/2 hours. I was head-banging back in the 90’s again the whole time!

    just like magic my experience.

by Dana E. on 4/5/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

The employees at the Gramercy Theater made my concert experience an awesome one. I am a stroke recovery individual walking with a cane. The bar manager Janina sat me next to the stage, escorted me to the bar, and helped me carry my drinks and snacks to my seat. Later on she made sure I could go downstairs in the elevator and buy a t-shirt. The last time that I saw the group the Church was when I was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas, and I was 24 years old. The concert was in a local ballroom and a friend of mine worked for the local radio station. Now I'm 60yrs old at home in NYC and the guys in the group the Church sound the same. This was such a treat for me and I still have my vinyl collection with my original record from the church.

Zero stars I'll NEVER see them live again.

by Bon on 4/4/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

I was excited to see the Church as a headliner, with a new album. I have seen them 5-6 times always with another band. This show was awful. The lead singer was either off his meds, OR high as a kite. Playing one or two songs then 20min of incoherent babbling, another 2 songs, another 20mins of nonsense. It was neither witty or entertaining. As a band or 40plus yrs they should be able to read the audience, when 2/3 of your audience is checking their emails, its time to play something to bring them back. Not play yet another mediocre song from your new album, then yell at them to "BUY IT AND PUT US ON THE CHARTS". We along with 1/3 of the audience left, a little more than 2/3 of the way thru. The new album is called "Hypnagogue" which means "sleep inducing", they NAILED IT! This will be my last Church concert. Kinda sad, but not worth my time.

    Not the best

by Reptile on 4/2/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

Left halfway through. The sound was off and band did not seem to be in sync. I appreciate that the Church creating new music, but would be good to hear some more favorites.

2+ hours of career spanning goodness

by FUZ999999 on 3/30/23Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

I'm not sure what to say exactly. This was nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes of Steve Kilby and his merry band playing hits and deep cuts across The Church's entire entire discography. You couldn't ask for more if you're a Church fan.

    A Church for Worshipping

by Sal on 3/14/23The Belasco - Los Angeles

They were absolutely brilliant! One of the best live bands to see. Each member of the band is extremely talented. It doesn't hurt that they have such a brilliant catalog of music.
