A Tale Told Like No Other

by Monchito143 on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

We were expecting irreverant and we got it...true to South Park color and form the characters came to life. The choreographing was excellent and the dancing reminded me of good lod fashioned stage musicals of years gone by. It was good to see something light and funny in all the doom and gloom that is presented to us in cinema dn on stage these days.

Absolutely amazing! Attended with my sister who had been obsessed with the soundtrack when it was released, absolutely measured up to the hype and fantastic Broadway original recording.

I understood some of the lines in Book of Mormom!

by teecherjulie on 9/9/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I loved the idea of this play and enjoy much of the humor of its writers. It was fun and I had a few good chuckles. I had a few problems though...maybe because it was so hyped up by friends who had already seen it. First, I could not understand a lot of the "Ugandan" accents and missed a lot of lines because of it. I saw others leaning over to their play-mates and asking the same thing, "What did they say?" To me, none of the music was memorable because I usually leave a good musical humming one of the songs. The rest, well, it's the Pantages that was the problem. They had a snaking line for the bathroom that rivaled the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland. A handful of stalls for people drinking beverages (they serve alcohol). A couple minutes before the lights flickered the end of intermission, an usher tells us there is a much smaller line on the other side of the theatre...thanks! Meanwhile, there's a huge mirrored powder room that should be converted to toilets! This isn't a new problem. It's always been this way. Come on Pantages, give a girl a break! Oh, let's not forget the $5 M&Ms!

The show is such a broadway paradox. The singing and dancing is so talented and then you realize what they are singing about. It's hilarious. VERY South Park humor and extremely relevant when we are inches away from electing a mormon president.

    The Book of Mormon

by Anonymous on 9/9/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The musical was enjoyable and there were some excellent parts Out seats were on the balcony therefore visual part was very good , audio part was not so great., even we have had Rabbit ears, Show is full of actions and no synopsis was printed which did nor help. I suggest that the synopsis be added so that we know what to expect next .It does not have to be detailed but as in any opera short one.

    Mormon was Irreverently Funny!

by Burningwoman on 9/8/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

It didn't hurt that it was in an Art Deco theater! The first act was great and the main actor had an insanely beautiful voice. But Act Two was outrageously hilarious. I especially loved the history parts with Jesus and Joseph Smith, as well as the Spooky Mormon Hell Dream. The writers paid off everything they set up in the first act to the hilt. It was fantastic!

    Hilarious!

by PipersMama on 9/8/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

You have to know that as a Matt Stone/Tret Parker endeavor this is no holds barred, profane and completely irreverent. If you're prepared for that, you will laugh your a** off! Very clever, and some great talent!

    BOOK OF MORMON WAS ENERTAINING!!!

by LILYHOLLYWOOD on 9/8/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The Book of Mormon was entertaining, with witty humor and an interesting plot. It was written by the creators of Southpark, so you have to expect lots of EXPLICIT language, which was well enjoyed by the audience. The play does cross over into inappropriate topics, but does it well so the audience laughs. The play made a statement about atrocities in Africa, about religion being made up, and about gays pushing down their gay into a box in their heart. Our only complaint was that it was hard to hear. We could hear the music well, but the lines and the singing was a bit muffled, so when I mentioned the gal singing "Salt Lake City" to my friend, she had not understood any of that song.

    Just OK

by Jetgirl000 on 9/8/12Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I was so looking forward to seeing "The Book of Mormon" - I'm a huge South Park fan and absolutely LOVE their sense of humor. (I also have a strange obsession with Mormonism!) I tried to lower my expectations because I was afraid the musical would not live up to the hype, but apparently, I didn't lower them enough. The performances were great, the songs were catchy... I think it was the writing that was simply lackluster. It did have moments of brilliance, but missed so many great opportunities to tell a better story (and better jokes). It was crass (although my husband thought it wasn't crass enough!) Definitely NOT worth the ticket price.
