The Allman Betts Band on Tour
When Devon Allman and Duane Betts come together to carry the torch that their fathers — Gregg and Dickey, respectively — bore for so many years, they do it their own way. Sure, they bring classic Allman Brothers Band tunes like "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," "Jessica," "Midnight Rider" and "Blue Sky" to the stage with a sound and spirit that will make their fathers' fans misty. But this is no tribute act. In addition to breathing new life into the old material, they offer up their own tunes, influenced by old-school Southern rock but bearing an undeniably original feel. And along the way they take songs by other artists, from John Lee Hooker to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and put their own roots-rocking stamp on them. Between Devon's pipes and Duane's guitar, old spirits are conjured in an Allman Betts Band concert, but new fires are stoked as well.
The Allman Betts Band in Concert
When Gregg Allman passed away in 2017, the loss ended any chance for the Allman Brothers Band to ever take the stage again. But two men found a way to move the spirit of the ABB into a new era. These musicians are an undeniable part of the band's legacy even though they were never actually members of the band. Gregg's son Devon Allman joined forces with Duane Betts, son of legendary Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts, to form The Allman Betts Band. Devon's soulful voice and Duane's fiery guitar work represent the next chapter in a Southern rock story that started with their parents back in Georgia in the late 1960s. There's even a third Allman Brothers Band offspring in the Allman Betts Band — Berry Oakley Jr., whose dad was the former's founding bassist. Those who mourn the Allman Brothers Band will find cause to rejoice in The Allman Betts Band, as not just a rekindling of old memories but a powerful path forward.
Best show ever! Would definitely see them again. The Stanley Theater is gorgeous!
So we are huge ABB ◇ Allman Brother fans. So these guys spark our interest just because of that connection. But thats where the fascination ends....these guys are a top tier band. They have never traded on their famous heritage, and if they did alottle bit :-) they have backed it up in spades. Have the set is original tunes...everyone amazing. The few Allman related tunes are done....really well. They have their own soul and play with so much respect. The other covers are just amazing. Purple Rain was the cover of the night. Song of the nite for us was the title track from their forthcoming record. Will be seeing these guys again and again for as long as they are together
Very cool venue, good beer, nice employees and great mysic.
Great show, Barry Oakley Jr. quite impressive. Tom Petty cover should have been left off the set list. I would have enjoyed more Altman Brothers Covers. Over all a terrific show by this new band.
Both bands were great. Blown away after this show!!
The Stanley Theater is a gorgeous venue with amazing acoustics. The Allman Betts Band puts on a fantastic show and appear to have fun. They are not a tribute band, but play a mix of songs from their previous music, their new songs and of course some Allman Brothers hits. They also do a few really good covers. Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts and Barry Oakley must be so proud !
High energy- good rapport with crowd- excellent mix of new music and old time favorites- really good show- highly recommend
excellent show- very talented and interesting- both the new and old was great!
Everything about this show was amazing! If you are an Allman Brothers fan you will love the rendidtions they do of Allman tunes. And the new music from the band is GREAT!The Stanley is a beautiful place and the crowd brought only good vibes! Can't wait to see them again!
Excellent show, had that Allman Bros sound that we all loved, strong vocals and great stage show. Very professional. Left the crowd wanting more, do not miss this band...
Great show. These young men are just as talented as their fathers. Saw them twice in 3 months and both shows were great!
I saw the Allman Brothers many times since the early 70s. Seeing this band was like seeing the Allman Brothers again for the 1st time. Great Musicians, Great vocals, high energy. They did a semi acoustic set in the middle, they played some Allman Brothers songs, did covers from Prince, Tom Petty, and ended with a Grateful Dead song. Do not miss this tour!
We love this band. They do a nice mix of originals, covers, and Allman Brothers tunes. All of the band members are incredible musicians and together they are super tight. This was our second time seeing them as Allman Betts and we saw them last year when they were the Devon Allman Project. The Stanley theater in Utica is a beautiful, well run venue. Can’t wait to see the A.B.Band again! Hopefully they return to the Stanley!
What a night! Listened to some great music...from the classic Allman Brothers to the new Allman Betts. This is the third time I’ve seen them on this tour. Looking forward to the release of their new album.
Didn't know what to expect going in, but we are now fans of this great band. They had the crowd on their feet for most of the show. Very exciting concert!
A great show by extremely talented musicians. Excellent mix of original songs, Allman Brothers hits, and covers of other artists (Prince, Tom Petty, and Grateful Dead). Their cover of "Purple Rain" featured guitar licks that left you speechless. They played for almost two hours and the time flew by. I hope they're around for a long time, because I look forward to seeing them again and again..
They're talented musicians but their music is still developing. Instead of playing a bunch of stuff we don't know and could be better, they should play more Allman Brothers music. Their original song The Hollow was great. Why do a Tom Petty cover when you could do an Allman Brothers tune??? I was a bit disappointed. Opening act JD Simo was good. Excellent guitarist!
The band was really good. nice collection of their own songs, other bands and Allman Brothers songs. Very nice touch having a local gal who connected with them on social media, play a song with them on electric violin and then called her up again during encore. Sound was awesome, and our seats were great. my only complaint was opening act which was pretty good had all their equipment on forward part of stage, and the main acts equipment was 20 - 30 feet behind them so would have liked main act to be up front on stage. Devon Allman is a great performer and has really good stage presence.
Growing up I never got to see the Allman Brothers in concert. This is as close as I will get to that. Devon and Duane obviously have the genetics. That was an awesome concert.
Allman Betts show was fantastic! Exceeded our expectations! We loved their original material as well as the undeniable connection to the much loved past. We will be watching for them to come through again! JD Simo was great fun to watch and listen to as well! Awesome musicians, great voice!
