A good start to a big farewell

by SBazal on 8/14/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I only began listening to The Adventure Zone just last August. So it's been a year since the show entered my life and during this time it has remained a a truly important part of it. Sounds strange since it's a dungeons and dragons podcast, but for those who took the time to listen to it, it's so much more. It's a story; a long, hilarious, and ultimately beautiful story. It's funny how, given where the show started, that it has ended up where it is now. It went from three brothers and their dad playing a nerdy-ass game (partially in jest), to a real work of art. But knowing the McElroys, can we really expect anything less? Their respect for their listeners is tremendous, and informs many of the decisions they make. Part of it is live in a sense, for it is improvised at many turns. Yet at the same time it is so well planned and thought out by Griffin, the DM. He has a real gift for storytelling (and music making!) and a great sensitivity to life and love and humanity etc., which is what makes this D&D podcast so moving and so special to so many people. Now that the first campaign of the show is ending, this live show seemed to have a special quality to it, because not only was it a chance for fans to see the bothers and their beloved characters finagle their way out of a bizarre situation, it was also a start of a celebration, one that was for everything that the podcast has been for us. Seeing it live was a great experience, and quite emotional. Both this and MBMBaM were. I will be forever grateful to this little-turned-big podcast and the people who make it. Great show, great enthusiasm, so much fun.

The best event I've ever been to

by Renrushesin on 7/24/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Honestly, if you are attending a McElroy live show, no matter what live show you are seeing, you know you're going to love it. The McElroys never cease to be amazing, hilarious people and now I can confirm that the same goes for their live shows. I will be keeping my eye out for future live shows for the rest of my life, and will aim to attend as many as I can without breaking the bank. Hope to see you more in the west, boys!

TaZ/MBMBaM was the highlight of SDCC weekend.

by Daverd on 7/24/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

If you have not been to a McElroy live show, specifically TaZ, it is understating things to say that you are truly missing out. Their shows are a flurry of positive humor all structured within Griffin's brilliant DM'ing and the group's planning and improv. The whole vibe is inclusive, genuine, and hilariously memorable. I dragged my lovely girlfriend (who does not play D&D and does not follow TaZ. sorry babe!) and despite her not following the inside jokes and references, there were still plenty of laughable moments for her. The whole night was a highlight of Comic-Con weekend, and as a native San Diegan, I'd be willing to travel out of state for their next live show.

Holy HECK that was an incredible show. The boys were hilarious, and my only complaint is that 1. The bag check took very, very long and delayed the show by a half hour, and 2. I missed out on buying a poster. Otherwise, amazing.

The funniest live show I've ever been to.

by TrueValk on 7/24/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Obviously, you need to already subscribe to a certain level nerdiness to want to go to an event where people play DnD on stage live in front of a sold out show at the Balboa Theater. Once you get past that hurdle, however, you're in for an amazing show. Everything was top to bottom perfect and I wish I could experience it all over again. If this show, or the brothers' other show MBMBaM, come into your area you owe it to yourself to check them out. You won't be disappointed.

The best comedy show I've ever seen.

I've been to a fair number of comedy shows, but none of them matched the absolute hilarity presented by The Adventure Zone. Go see these guys.

Both shows were absolutely incredible. I came in from Albany NY to see the McElroy family do what they do best, make goofs and bring joy to the world. They exceeded my already high expectations and I can't wait to see them again in the future!

I've listened to over 350 hours of these brothers talking and it was an amazing experience to see them in person! They did not let me down! Watching four grown men play D&D was the best show I've ever experienced!

    Quite and adventure

    by CSaw33 on 7/18/16The Wilbur - Boston

You'd think that watching others play D&D would be boring, but this family group has an excellent dynamic. The combination of story telling and comedy was balanced nicely, although it was a little rushed at the end to fit into the time allotment. I would recommend seeing them live and listening to the many podcasts that these brothers put out.

Everything I wanted from the McElroys

by JFredyma on 7/18/16The Wilbur - Boston

A weekend in Boston with tickets to both the Adventure Zone and MBMBaM was the best birthday I've had in a long time. The McElroys didn't disappoint and they really know how to make their fans happy. The crowd was so enthusiastic that on both nights the brothers remarked that the Boston crowds were the loudest they have every had. When the brothers come back to Boston in a few years I will definitely be there!

The Adventure Zone was the best show at the Wilbur

by JennieEckilson on 7/18/16The Wilbur - Boston

I've been a fan of The Adventure Zone for years, and their show at the Wilbur did NOT disappoint. It was funny, fun, and engaging. The hosts did a great job of interacting with the crowd and keeping the momentum moving. The space made it so that there wasn't a bad seat in the house, and was intimate enough to still feel like you were close to the action. I also sincerely appreciated how the Wilbur staff allowed for a signing line with the performers after the show - it was really great to see them up close and in person. I've been to ten shows at the Wilbur and this one was, by and far, the best one I've seen so far. I would absolutely come back to the Wilbur again, especially if The Adventure Zone was playing.
