    A Very Fun Show!

by ElvisFanForeverAndADay on 8/5/13City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

Had a blast. There were 7 or 8 musicians that played at Woodstock on stage and they are still rocking. Started a little slow with Canned Heat (the first concert I saw in 1968) but was still great hearing them play the old hits. I did not really remember Pat Travers. He was shredding the guitar and it kept building until he ended with Boom Boom Out Go the lights. He had the whole audience singing along Rick Derringer was awesome. Highlight for him, and possibly the whole show was Hang On Sloopy. I diod not know he was in the Mcoys and he did an awesome version including a second verse that was not on the recording Edgar Winter was AMAZING. I had never seen him before and was blown away with his energy. He is a musical GENIUS. I did not know he played the drums in addition to singing, keyboards and sax. He shredded the timbales on Frankenstein which was another of the best songs of the evening. Ten Years after closed and was also great. The bass player was insane and the drummer also did a great job playing some very fast tunes and never letting the energy drop. Felt like I was at Woodstock when they played Going Home. First time at the Grove and will go again SOON. Great place for a show, no bad seats, no lines for the restroom of snack bars, clean, what more could you ask for????

    Lots of Guitar

by littledrummerboy on 8/5/13City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

Enjoyable show. Derringer and Winter the best. No matter what they do Ten Years After is not the same band without Alvin Lee.

    The Grove rocked

by Chuckster323 on 8/5/13City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

Grove is great music venue. I had never seen any of these people before nd they all were fantastic. One of these groups would have been worth the trip but all of them togeather was awesome. To bad Johnny Winter couldn't be on the venue also. Ten Years After was unbelievable but everyone was terrific.

Rock 'N' Blues Fest - fun...

by pjatlv on 8/3/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Overall, this 'fest' (not realy a fest) was kinda fun, but really, the only real memorable part was Edgar W's playing - he's still got it.

Edgar Winter is as good now as ever!!!

by JDSLADY on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. We have always loved the venue, Humphrey's Summer Concerts, but this show was probably the best from beginning to end that we've seen to date. The bands were hot, the weather was perfect and the crowd was well behaved as well. We had been concerned about people rushing the stage rendering our front row seats less valuable but security kept that from happening. We got the full package which included dinner and a suite. The room was awesome and the hotel in general was quiet after the show. We will definitely be back!

    Humphreys Rocks

by Jimii on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

An act really needs to be bad to rate below average at Humphreys. Sitting next to the bay, warm evening, cocktails in hand served to you, what's not to like? The music is often secondary. I think this gig was called Hippiefest in the past. Have been a few times. Missed opening act Canned Heat because of traffic and we always picnic across street at bay before any Humphrey's concert, great location. From my reading, Canned Heat members died many years ago. Can't comment on current act since didn't see. The event was made worthy by Edgar Winters. The drinking man's albino was in top form. Played his alto sax and the keyboards and Pat Travers joined in. But his own guitarist was one of the best I have seen. Edgar rocks! Would recommend seeing him anywhere. Left before Ten Years After completed its set. I read Alvin Lee died about a year ago. Band was comprised of people I didn't know.

    A rollicking good time

by Alagria on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

The festival was terrific. Everyone was spot on - although the Canned Heat singer couldn't wrap his voice around Going Up Country. Rick Derringer was awesome. I think he is great looking, but my companions called him Elton John's little brother....

Travers - derringer - Winter - Ten years - heartbe

by Haban on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Sweet venue!! Love the outdoor show in beautiful San Diego weather. Each group was on time and played some amazing old tunes. Derringer rocked it in his sassy black jacket and his vocals were pure. Edgar Winter moved around the stage like he was still a kid. Pat Travers still rocks like the old days and had the awesome back up drummer and bass. Leaving the show and walking straight into a hotel suit was over the top. It allowed us to go hog wild and not face the heat on the drive home. Everyone at the venue, restaurant , and hotel were friendly and courteous. Every employee/staff person involved in the event smiled and said "have a good time, or good night, or good morning". Thank you Humphreys and ticetmaster for a rocking good time.

    Canned Heat stil has it

by Concertman11 on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Canned Heat was great and should have not opened the show. Edgar Winter is tollerable, Rick Deringer ok, Pat Travers you could forget and not have, 10 Years after should have played more of their old well known songs. That's why we come to oldies concerts. A fist fight almost broke out over people standing in front of others who were sitting. Not uncomon at concerts. Security was no where to be seen.

Rock and Blues Mellows with Age

by ClassicRockAdvocate on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Great combination of acts. Same drum set up across first few acts made for efficient timing between sets. The sound was clean but pretty tame volume. Performers really Mellowing with age? Edgar Winters remains a prime example of the consummate performer

    Geezer Rock!

by BluesinC on 8/2/13Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

This was a pretty fun show. A lot of people I hadn't seen in their heyday. I mostly went to see Edgar Winter, as he is one of my favorites, particularly his jazz and blues numbers. His band backed up Rick Derringer and Pat Travers, and were remarkable. Pat Travers was mostly forgettable outside of his rendition of Boom Boom, but Rick Derringer was both entertaining (who knew he used to be in the band that played Hang on Sloopy!) and an excellent guitarist. Each band played four to five songs with lots of improvisation. I wished Edgar could have played longer, but otherwise it was a very fun show.
