Tarja is a DREAM!
by JessicaW91 on 9/12/18Gramercy Theatre - New YorkSo, before I get into anything about Tarja - let's talk about Gramercy Theatre for a second. The five-star rating you see is not for the venue, but for Tarja. The way it showed up when I previewed was that I was giving Tarja the one-star rating. There is some SERIOUS room for improvement with them. Everyone was rude - EVERYONE. The number of times I was rushed while I was inside was ridiculous. We were rushed for Meet and Greet (to the point where everyone was coming out progressively annoyed, some in actual tears), we were rushed to get out of the main part of the venue at the end of the show, and we were rushed away from the merch tables downstairs while we were trying to buy things and talk to the opening band. The sound system was TERRIBLE and didn't do Tarja's voice justice AT ALL. Even she was communicating with the sound team a lot from the stage. If they fix their attitudes and their technical issues, they might actually be a decent venue. Tarja, however, put on one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Ever the performance lady, she had several outfit changes and even wore a crown given to her by a fan in Sao Palo for Diva. Her voice truly is one of a kind. It's very, very clear that she enjoys what she does; I have so many pictures of her with the biggest smile on her face, and the amount of movement and jumping she was doing was enough to make me tired just looking at her. (I'm 27 - she's in her 40's. She wins.) It really is a shame that she's not in the United States more often. This tour has proven that she has an audience, and she absolutely nailed it in New York. The meet and greet with her was just as nice (even if it was rushed, though that was in NO WAY her fault). She loves her fans and she makes that very clear. I'm looking forward to seeing her again in Los Angeles.
