Syracuse University Men's Basketball History
Syracuse fielded its first basketball team in 1900, and the team achieved its first winning record three years later when John A.R. Scott started coaching the squad. The Orange played independent of a conference for decades, but when the Big East Conference coalesced in 1979, Syracuse came on board as a founding member. The team won 10 regular-season Big East titles until it joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013.
From 1976 to 2023, the program was coached by Jim Boeheim. During his tenure In the '80s, Syracuse boasted a crop of phenoms, including Rony Seikaly, Pearl Washington, Sherman Douglas, and Derrick Coleman. In 2002, future NBA star Carmelo Anthony played his freshman year at Syracuse before leaving for the NBA draft. The Orange won the NCAA Championship with Anthony in 2003. Syracuse has appeared in the NCAA Final Four five additional times and overall has made the NCAA Tournament an impressive 41 times.
Syracuse's biggest rival is the Georgetown Hoyas, a team they’ve been squaring off against since the 1930. Syracuse also has rivalries with the UConn Huskies, as well as a newer rivalry with Duke.

Syracuse Orange at the JMA Wireless Dome (formerly known as Carrier Dome)
Until the 1980-81 season, the Orange played their home games at Manley Field House, and then moved over to the 34,616-capacity Carrier Dome, which was renamed to the JMA Wireless Dome in 2022. Syracuse boasts some of the most dedicated fans in college basketball, as the team regularly sets attendance records at their home games. They are currently coached by Adrian Autry.
The Syracuse Orange’s 2023–24 regular season kicks off in November at home as the Orange face off against New Hampshire. The Orange play their final game of the regular season in South Carolina against Clemson. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

Seats were up high, but still a good view. My sons had a great time.
First trip to the Carrier Dome for me. Not the best facility for basketball, but the atmosphere was electric. 'Cuse fans clearly love their Orange. I was surprised by how few fans there were for the opposing team (Pitt). They either weren't there or decided to remain anonymous. As a Pitt fan myself I was happy with the outcome, but tried not to be too obvious about it.
Needed a win in this one, Big East play will just get tougher.
Even though our seats were in the 300 level of the Carrier Dome, truly any seat is a good seat for a Syracuse University Men's Basketball game. Never second guess going to a game because of the tickets you get! And get a dome dog and cookie-wich, they are the best!
The seats were very good and we enjoyed ourselves very much... Will do it again for sure.
Seats were fantastic! Too bad Syracuse lost! Carrier Dome was a great venue. I recommend parking at the Manley Field House and taking the shuttle bus. Much easier than parking at the Carrier Dome, and you get out right away.
Always great to watch the Orange at home! Great tickets! SO much better than standing in line at the Dome ticket office.
Great crowd of over 24,900 people. Can't win them all. Print out tickets worked great.
The dome was great, was our first time there and enjoyed every minute. Spent money on Cuse collectables and the food was excellent.
Let's hope this is one of only a few losses for SU this season!
the seats i had were 314 row F. i thought these were gonna be nosebleeds because its the dome and they love to pack you into the farthest possible seat just to get attendance up, but these seats were almost perfect for the venue. i would also suggest bringing a large garbage bag for your jackets because it seemed everyone around us had done this to keep them clean. oh and they serve beer til halftime. only a few places do this anymore for college basketball. cant wait to go again
We arrived at the game a few minutes late and even though we realize we were in the upper section, there was not enough room to seat 4 adults and people barely moved over; they acted like we were trying to cheat THEM! My husband and my friends husband sat in front of us in an empty space, but we would have liked to have sat with them. For $28 I'm not sure if those very tight (supposedly) seats are worth it.
We were pleased that we were able to get good seats at the last minute.
the game was great but that is that was.i did not like the fact that i was in a hurry to get back to the game and none of the food stands took credit cards.so i tried finding a atm.there was only 2 and both of them were out of money or broke.
Even though the game wasn't exactly a nail-biter (The Orange were up by 48 at half time!), we had lots of fun. Its a great team this year and there were some spectacular moves on the court.
Lets face it, Columbia has no chance v. the 'Cuse, but what you do get to see is the bench play some good min. Next year's team and beyond look skilled enough to keep us dancin' through 2012.
I took my 12 year old daughter to her first Syracuse basketball game. It was by far the worst Dome experience that I've ever had. We sat in Section 110, Row T, seats 1 & 2. We saw very little of the first 10 minutes of the game. There were so many late arriving patrons passing through the isle that there were times when we couldn't even see the court. Aren't the ushers supposed to STOP traffic during play?
SU is a basketball team you just HAVE to see! A SU basketball game is a great experience at one of the biggest venues in college basketball.
The game was fine but the seats were not that great. These were the best seats they said and there was a pole right next to me so I had to lean foward to see the game. If you want to go to the game check the seating chart before you order tickets.
Would have liked seats between $28 or $75 choice but that was all that was offered (available?) Game was great though but seats were poor:(
