About

SUGAR RAY IN CONCERT:

Sugar Ray virtually dominated late-'90s airwaves with breezy, SoCal-filtered pop earworms like "Fly" and "Every Morning." Fifteen years later they're still going as strong as ever, hitting the road to headline the 2014 Under The Sun Tour with fellow '90s favorites Smashmouth and Blues Traveler. As far as frontmen go, they don't make 'em more charismatic than Mark McGrath — fans lucky enough to catch the band live on their last tour were floored by his energy and charisma, setting expectations sky high for their upcoming shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sugar Ray formed in Newport Beach in 1986, initially playing the unique brand of funk metal heard on their 1995 debut LP Lemonade and Brownies. While the album garnered them attention in alternative circles, it wasn't until they adopted a poppier sound for 1997's Floored that they really cracked things wide open, topping charts in the US and Canada with the ubiquitous decade smash "Fly." 1999 follow-up album 14:49 was an even bigger success, going triple platinum with infectious singles like "Every Morning" and "Someday." Throughout the '00s, the band continued to find success, releasing three albums and touring extensively. In 2014, they hit the road for the Under the Sun Tour, joining bands like Smashmouth and Uncle Kracker for a seriously satisfying dose of '90s nostalgia.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"... Sugar Ray by far made the show! Upbeat, got the crowd moving! Seemed like he was having a blast singing!"

"... they seriously kicked ass on stage! The whole concert was just purely entertaining and listening to their '90s hits was awesome!"

"The venue was intimate and Sugar Ray made us want to dance all night. Mark McGrath is an awesome performer and interacts well with the audience. The new music was terrific and fresh and the oldies still sound great."

The concert was horrible! We left after 3 songs. He acted like he was high. Started playing almost an hour late. Was really off key. Everyone around us was super disappointed. Wish I could have a refund!

Sponge started off with some great tunes. Lead singer of Everclear was stoned. Lit "lit" it up with "My own worst enemy". Sugar Ray was just plain awesome. A real entertainer.

by DWDJr on 3/23/15Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

i purchased the tic advertised with gin Blossoms as the headliner. I was a little late (my fault obviously) but expected to see all of gin blossoms. I was disappointed to see they went on first.

The Gin Blossoms & Sugar Ray concert was so much better than we had even expected. We came for Gin Blossoms and didn't realize how much of a great show Sugar Ray could perform! Great show! Really really enjoyed it all...

Gin Blossoms and Sugar Ray are a Great Team

by Chjones on 12/9/14IP Casino Resort and Spa - Biloxi

I saw this same pair about a year ago. They are awesome together. I love the Gin Blossoms but they can be a bit "down" in their sound. But then Sugar Ray comes out with the energy of 2 year old. They make a great double bill

I really enjoyed this event. All four bands put on a great show, they each had fairly short sets but since there was 4 bands it was ok. Our seats were near the back but this is such a small venue that there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

    Uncle Kräcker was great

by Jeffrey52 on 8/18/14The Tulalip Amphitheatre - Tulalip

The line up was great, the sound not so great. The event was weird from the start, the bands came out in a weird order and the sound was not good at all. Each band played about 40 min or so. Just did not have the feel of a good show.

    Awful show, awful venue

by MintJulip69 on 8/18/14The Tulalip Amphitheatre - Tulalip

This "amphitheatre" is nothing more than a stage set up on some grass with folding chairs placed in front. It's a carnival atmosphere. The show was awful, with each band performing only a handful of songs. Sugar Ray was the biggest disappointment, with frontman Mark McGrath hurrying through the set, as if he was eager to get off stage and move on. His constant references to the lineup also made me wonder whether he had a problem going on before the night's final band, the Gin Blossoms. The sound quality was good enough, but were the seats necessary? For the amount of money people were charged for those tickets this was not a quality experience.
