About

Commemorating 40 years of recording and releasing music, Stryper continues to churn out rock-solid albums and pulsating live performances. The hardworking group shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Following on the heels of their successful studio project The Final Battle (Frontiers Music Srl), the definitive foursome released their first-ever acoustic album Acousticyzed on February 16, 2024. The double-disc set features an audio CD and DVD/Blu-ray video recorded and filmed at SpiritHouse Studios in western Massachusetts.

The 11-track acoustic collection features stripped-down versions of Stryper's classic songs - ranging from energized tracks "Loud & Clear" and "Soldiers Under Command" to power ballad "Honestly" - plus a never-before-released version of enduring hymn "Amazing Grace." The video unveils an up-close look at band members performing the album live in the studio.

For a limited time this spring, "To Hell with the Amps: The Unplugged Tour" will feature Stryper playing the entirety of the acoustic project during each performance.

"We're excited to show people a totally different translation of these songs," says lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter Michael Sweet. "Most of the acoustic shows will be set in smaller, more intimate venues, and the set is naturally more toned down. It will feel like a family affair, like everyone is sitting in our living room listening to us play."

Sweet adds that the band will follow the acoustic stints with a full-on 40th anniversary tour kicking off September 13, 2024.

"The anniversary tour will feature songs ranging across our entire discography," he reveals. "We'll perform a set consisting of our classic songs, then play a second set containing more recent material."

Sweet further shares that the band's live shows will feature everything from heightened production to variations in wardrobe.

"We will be changing outfits from a classic look to a modern look, with production to match," Sweet says. "It will definitely be unprecedented because it's important to come up with a unique way for fans to celebrate this milestone anniversary with us."

In addition, the band plans to offer an exclusive pre-show VIP experience for its loyal devotees. A 45-minute encounter with Stryper will include a private screening of a short film featuring archival footage and photos and a brief Q&A session with the bandmates.

As for future endeavors, the band just wrapped recording another full-length studio album Sweet describes as "all killer and no filler." The anticipated release date is fall 2024.

"We're hoping it will continue the trend of our music getting better with each release," Sweet says. "It's loaded with high-quality tunes and great energy."

Stryper also has made solid progress on a much-anticipated Kickstarter-fueled documentary film. More than 1,700 backers helped the band far exceed its original funding goal, earning a "Projects We Love" tag on the popular crowdfunding platform.

"We found a brilliant director, Chris Atkins, and it's being filmed now," says Sweet, adding that footage will be captured throughout the rest of this year.  "We're excited to see it's finally happening."

When it comes to groundbreaking bands in the Christian hard-rock genre, Stryper is renowned for its distinctive brand of "heavenly metal," extraordinary crossover success and venerable endurance. The group ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40 hits like "Calling on You," "Honestly" and "Always There for You."

Stryper's career album sales exceed 10 million worldwide, including 1986's multiplatinum release To Hell with the Devil. The band also made history when it notched two songs simultaneously in MTV's Top 10 with videos "Free" and "Honestly."

Today, some 40 years after emerging from the southern California nightclub scene, the foursome continues to record, tour and perform for devoted fans around the globe. Comprising three original members including brothers Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar) plus longtime bandmate and veteran bassist Perry Richardson, the group finds itself continuing to create their finest, most powerful music yet.

by ryncasmom on 9/21/09Crocodile Rock - Allentown

Stryper was right on. They were incredible. Hard to believe they can still rock so well but they did. Can't wait to see them again. It was a gift to my husband and he loved it. He has been going to see them as often as possible for the last 25 years and thought they were as good or better than they were 25 years ago.

    Blew me away

by Metal666 on 9/14/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

Having little/no previous knowledge of the band but remembering (some of) the glory days, my buddy and I went for the hell of it. In a word, incredible. Dual guitar was especially tight. These guys are doing it for the music and not the money, so all respect out for that.

    They still got it!

by jose4stryper on 9/13/09Northern Lights - Clifton Park

After 25 years of making ground breaking music, Stryper took the stage and rocked my face off. My buddy said it best when he commented, "You could tell they were having the time of there lives." Musically, they were tight. Trade off solos galore, timing and showmanship. I did the pre show meet n greet which was very cool and I also caught a Bible they had tossed into the crowd. The first act was pretty forgettable, except for their lead guitar player (Jeremy, i believe his name was) and Flight Patterns were actuall pretty good. Personally, I would have loved to seen another encore and a couple of guitar solos and a drum solo, but as far as the performance of the band, it was breath taking.

Stryper - House of Blues, Boston, MA

by GinaH on 9/12/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

This show was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time, maybe if ever if you consider the talent of these guys. Michael Sweet's voice is stronger than ever. Those notes he hit and the END of the night after singing his arse off were out of this world. The guitar sounds and chops were what me made me love this music from the beginning. I can't say enough to recommend catching them on this tour. Worth the money times 10!

Stryper @ House of Blues: so loud & bad we left!

by obiwandb on 9/12/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

The WORST rock and roll experience EVER! The wife and I went to this show out of loyalty to Tom Sholz of the group Boston who I worked with years ago. What a total disappointment. To start with, there were 2 unannounced opening acts. The first, whose name I have forgotten to protect the guilty, were a very young band trying to relive the 80's. They were not so bad but they were PAINFULLY loud from the first note. Even the HOB staff all were wincing and wearing ear plugs! HOB had put us up on the 3rd level thinking that would be more comfortable for my wife who is partially handicapped. She was very uncomfortable between the nose-bleed height (she is agoraphobic: no-one asked) and the painful volume, all of which gave her a panic attack, so we fled to the 1st floor and the lobby for safe haven. A kind HOB staffer noticed our distress and got us ear plugs, gratis. Then opener #2, Flight Patterns I think, came on and again plastered us to the walls with volume. Also truly one of the worst bands I have heard in all my years as a record producer. I wouldn't book these guys in a basement, much less HOB. They couldn't play, sing or write a decent tune to save their lives. At this point, even a couple of drinks and the free earplugs couldn't save the night. We left, not having seen either Tom Sholz OR Styrper. Seeing a Stryper review today, I don't think we missed much with them. I hope Sholz did something more memorable.

Stryper was the best concert of the year

by KYRAMARY on 9/12/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

I am still in awe of the performance Stryper gave last night.. To see all four original members together was a treat but then the music was unbelievable, They are a strong band whose vocals and musical talents show why they are still one of the best rock bands around. Micheal Sweet 's voice is an beautiful instrument . I pray they come to the Providence area, as i will be attending that show as well. For us female fans....Thank you for still looking hot,

    STRYPER rocks

by Rocker2525 on 9/12/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

STRYPER at the House of Blues -Boston. They are an incredible heavy metal band-and they sing about Jesus, too. All 4 original members. The 1980s never went away. You got to see this show-they blew the roof off the House of Blues. I even got Michael Sweet's autograph after the show.
