I am familiar with this groups three CDs which I listened to for a couple of weeks prior to attending the show. There are some nice melodies to be gleaned from some of them, and they show some promise.
However, as a live show, these guys need a good manager to guide them. First, the tickets showed a start time of 8:00 PM. They didn't start playing until 11:30 PM, and the warm-up guy was absolutely awful; watching a karaoke session at any bar would have been more fun.
Second, I was impressed with the fact that this was a very wholesome looking crowd of followers they enjoyed. I am in my forties, and was accompanying some friends and their kids, though we are very open minded about listening to new bands. We have become big MUSE and Arcadia Fire fans, for example. The fans were mostly teenagers, clean cut, very few with piercings and tattoos... Not judgemental about those that go that direction, but still, these characteristics stood out, especially compared to what I am used to at the Masquerade...! So, given the demographics of their followers, and their "pop/mellow synths" style, I would suggest that if the band changed their name, they would probably be able to attract even larger crowds...
Third, since they lack a charismatic showman for their show, and are quite stiff and boring to watch, I would respectfully suggest they find some people that can be seen doing some choreographed dancing on stage during the show, adding some energy, some visuals. Even adding a couple of guys juggling behind them, or some sexy dancing girls, would have made the experience more memorable, and infused the show with energy.
I know the fans won't appreciate these comments, but feedback such as this is quite valuable, and actually well meaning. Honest feedback can lead a band to understand how they might be able to improve. "Starfucker" does have some talent, but just needs to learn how to perform on stage so that there is a marked difference between watching them live and just throwing a CD on. And, I would be very grateful if the actual times that the warm-up band and the main featured band play are clearly displayed on the ticket, so as to avoid the warm up band in the future, if so desired.
The Masquerade itself is a great venue to see bands up close. No complaints there...! :)
