STREET DOGS IN CONCERT:

Classic Boston punk rock bares its teeth any time Beantown mainstays Street Dogs take the stage. The project of former Dropkick Murphy's singer Mike McColgan, Street Dogs have serious cred with punk fans, and their live shows live up to their reputation for hard-hitting, no-holds-barred showmanship. McColgan is an adrenaline-fueled force of nature in concert, whipping ticket buyers into a frenzy with his livewire energy and rowdy sing-alongs on anthemic cuts like "Fighter" and "Do or Die." The rest of the band is a well-oiled machine, bringing an air-tight musicianship and breakneck pace to their performances that keeps fans thrashing from start to finish. For a straight-up punk show full of attitude and oi!, Street Dogs always deliver the goods.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After two brief but bright years fronting legendary Boston punk outfit Dropkick Murphys, Mike McColgan left the group in 1998 to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter. He joined the Boston Fire Department and spent several years with the brigade, but the pull of music proved too strong, and in the early '00s he formed Street Dogs. The band recorded demos in 2002 and dropped their debut album Savin Hill in 2003, and the following year McColgan took a leave of absence from the fire department to focus on music full-time. The move paid off – the band's 2005 sophomore album Back to the World was a critical hit, leading to a stint on the Vans Warped Tour and outings on the road with major punk acts including Social Distortion, Bad Religion, and Millencolin. The band maintained a prolific recording and touring schedule for the rest of the decade, embarking on several Vans Warped Tours and sating their loyal fans with blistering albums like 2008's State of Grace and 2010's Street Dogs. Since then Street Dogs have continued to tour sporadically while also pursuing various side projects including the Americana band FM359, which features McColgan and two other Street Dogs members along with former Dropkick Murphys guitarist Rick Barton.

    Toby's last show

by Espo58 on 12/26/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Probably because it was Toby's last show, this night seemed to have more energy than Friday's show. A load of guests on stage adding to the excitement. A tribute to Joe Strummer was also much appreciated.

    Street Dogs Wrecked the Halls!!!

by JohnRockFan on 12/20/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The Friday night show for me had the better setlist. Loved them opening with the Bunker Hill Bag pipes then "Rattle and Roll" into "Up the Union", "Redemption Song" (Joe Strummers version of the Bob Marley classic) and "Dirty Old Town" (The Pogues) were great surprise covers mid set. The energy was great, the beers went down like water, and got to meet Mike after the show! Walked out with my ears ringing and overly excited. Saturday night was crazier, opener Death before Dis-honer were a little too hard and screamy for me( ear plugs). Street Dogs started off with the same Bunker Hill Bag Pipes , then opened with Savin Hill (removed ear plugs for the remainder of the show), it seemed a lot crazier, packed and edgier. The energy was high and stayed that way until the last song which as usual was insane. Punk is alive and well. Great job guys!

    They just keep getting better

by EYcostello on 12/19/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Street Dogs always put on an incredible show, but this time was even better than the last time I saw them. They are like an aged whiskey that takes on the characteristics of the venue they're in, and they sound better the older they get. Additionally, they're incredible guys. You can't find a nicer group of musicians in one place.

    Kick Ass Show!

by BostonRed on 12/19/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Another successful homecoming show. Both nights are not to be missed for any fan of the Street Dogs or Boston street punk. I'm still singing songs even though I lost my voice singing along all weekend.

The Street Dogs put on an Amazing Show!! They had a few bands opening for them. What Made the Night with them was The Bunker Hill Pipe Band from Charlestown, Ma. Originated by <3 The Dropkick Murphys<3. Mike McColgan was as much into his audience as the audience was into him.. He dove into his audience so carefree ... The audiences replied with open hands and smiles... It was a mix crowd as far as the age group goes... It was an all ages show... For myself I would prepare a 21 and older crowd... Over all They Rocked Boston!!

Great set list with a few surprises thrown in. I really liked the guest appearances, Budda, Pat from the Have Nots, The Bruisers. The sound was great but it was LOUD, loudest Street Dogs show I've even been to. Great crowd as usual, saw lots of familiar faces and met some nice new people as well. Here's the set list: Rattle and Roll – Street Dogs Up the Union – Street Dogs Punk Rock and Roll – Street Dogs Not Without a Purpose – Fading American Dream Bobby Powers – Street Dogs Mean Fist – State of Grace Two Angry Kids – State of Grace Tobe’s Got a Drinking Problem – Fading American Dream The Shape of Other Men – Street Dogs Dirty Old Town – (Traditional) Redemption Song – Bob Marley cover Final Transmission – Fading American Dream Jakes – Savin Hill Savin Hill – Savin Hill Drink Tonight – Back to the World In Defense of Dorchester – Back to the World Back to the World – Back to the World Fighter – Savin Hill/Street Dogs Encore: Iron Chin – (Bruiser’s Cover) In Stereo – Street Dogs Boston Breakout – Savin Hill

    Almost perfect line up

by Mervyn on 3/17/11Beauty Bar LV - Las Vegas

My friend told me about the show 2 weeks prior. I had not heard of any of the bands but for $15 tix, it wouldn't be horrid if it was a bust The opening band was out of place. The hardcore screamo didn't seem to fit in with the Irish, and/or folk undertones of the other groups, but the music was ok Lenny Lashley was a lot of fun to watch as his unique voice made me think of music my grandma would listen to on her record player. Old Man Markley was amazing and could have headlined on their own. Street Dogs were everything I expected from them, high energy and fans of the working class

    Street Dogs....always a killer show!

by Mopsy1972 on 12/21/10Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The Street Dogs rocked another show. As always, totally played up to the crowd, had everyone slamming on the floor and finished the show with as much energy as they started it.

    Street Dogs ruled !!

by Halbersma on 10/24/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

If you haven't seen this band yet, then it's time to step up! This is the hardest working band in street punk today! It doesn't mather if it's a monday night show in some local bar or a headlining gig@El Rey, they deliver 24/7. @El Rey they played a lot off the new masterpiece simply titled"Street Dogs". They were at it from the beginning and the show was a mix of oldies and goodies, acoustics and with help from the the supporting bands on some tunes the party never ended!!! The band is in top shape, representing Boston and the songs are coming straight from the heart ( or the botlle) with sing alongs from every corner of this very nice venue!

    Flatfoot56 & Street Dogs - Outstanding

by nightgekko on 10/16/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

El Rey Theatre in Los Angles is a great little venue, the staff were polite and decent, they even had bath-room attendants. I took my 17 year old son, he loved The Sparring (The first band to play), Flatfoot 56, and his fav, Street Dogs. He was excited when he went to buy a c.d. and met front man Tobin Bawinkel of Flatfoot 56. He was so impressed that Tobin was out to meet the crowd. Also playing were Continental and Devil's Brigade, two more very good bands. All the bands were fun and got the crowd moving, the mosh-pit was a great time.

by Wedeeno on 10/11/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I have attended approx. 200 punk-rock concerts over the last 30 years, and this was the first time I've seen a punk band with a bagpiper. It was awesome!

I've never been to the Galaxy Theater, but it was a great place for a show. I went to go see Flatfoot 56, but stayed for the entire show. All of the bands put on a great show, high energy, and just a fun time.

Street dogs put on another great show!

by F2LBLG on 9/20/10Gramercy Theatre - New York

First of all, the Devils Brigade was awesome. Devils Brigade is Matt Freeman from Rancid's side project. Really great set. He played an upright bass for most of the songs and switched to a standard electric for a few Rancid songs! Some kids got into a fight halfway through the set and Matt stopped midway through a song to try and break it up. It seemed to really piss him off. Then the Street Dogs came on! Oh man, were they fired up! Mike called out the people on the balcony for sitting several times. Pretty rad. The Street Dogs always have so much energy and never disappoint.
