Steve Martin & Martin Short on Tour
As two titans of comedy, Steve Martin and Martin Short have conquered film, television, and the stage in the course of their long, dazzling careers. But the live shows that grew out of both their friendship and their undeniable comedic chemistry create something special enough to stand out even among the many achievements of these two show-biz veterans.
In 2015, they worked up a show that combined both of their quirky gifts and started taking it around the country. Even more people got a share of the laughs when one show was filmed for the 2018 Netflix special An Evening You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life, where Short and Martin joke, jab, and jibe with each other and inject a little music into the mix as well. Martin showed off his Grammy-winning banjo prowess and Short displayed his Tony-winning vocal chops.
Later that year, the pair announced a new tour: Now You See Them, Soon You Won't. It presented an evening of all-new material and reunited them with Steve's Grammy-winning bluegrass compatriots — the Steep Canyon Rangers — for a couple of hot-picking musical moments in the bargain.
Steve Martin & Martin Short Background
Steve Martin debuted his offbeat brand of stand-up comedy in the 1960s, when he first reached a wide audience via the TV shows of the Smothers Brothers and Sonny & Cher. His appearances on Saturday Night Live in the mid '70s helped him become one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His idiosyncratic, often absurdist style translated to sold-out arena shows and platinum albums.
In short order he became a film star, with movies like The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was on the 1986 film Three Amigos that he first worked with Martin Short, who had become famous for his outrageous characters and sketch comedy mastery on SCTV and SNL earlier in the '80s.
Short went on to plenty of big films himself, and the two teamed up again in 1991's Father of the Bride as well as its 1995 sequel. Short became a Broadway star in the '90s with shows like The Goodbye Girl and Little Me, and he inhabited the classic character Jiminy Glick in the '00s for his Comedy Central series Primetime Glick. But for all the many accomplishments lining both their legacies, when Martin and Short come together for their live performances, they create an utterly unique comedic force.
One of the best concerts ever. Both were very funny. Great clips from their movies and TV shows. Steve's banjo playing was excellent. Definitely an R-rated show with some great adult humor.
Hilarious night watching two comedy legends perform with each other on stage. I've been a big Steve Martin fan for a long time and he did not disappoint. He and Martin Short played off each other spectacularly when together and were equally as funny during their stints on stage alone. If I had the opportunity, I'd see this act every week.
We had an absolutely wonderful time. Steve Martin and Martin Short are so funny they kept us laughing. Great show!!
First half of the show, with men bantering, was very funny, quick & enjoyable. They are both smart, witty guys. The second half, with Steve on the banjo and Martin in costume was boring. Martin Short brings 'game' to the stage. Steve just brings himself. Yawn. Lots of video playing to take up time. Alarmingly short show.
I laughed from beginning to end! What a pair! Steve even did a tribute to Robin Williams! I would definitely go see them again!

Wow - we had no idea Martin Short was so funny! He was sharp as a tack and quick - just hilarious. Steve seemed more involved with his band than the show but Martin brought him around and displayed a TON more energy...that was unexpected to say the least. Overall it was a great night out and well worth the admission!
Why was it marketed as a converation - when it was half music? Only 90 minutes - felt like a rip off and making fun of having to perform for another 5 minutes in the encore was not funny. I truly felt like we were being ripped off. Short did some funny movements, but Martin was sitting or rarely moving. One of the funniest parts was the film introductions where they showed their best show/movie scenes over the years. We love the funny faces, movements and actions of both comedians in the past - but they barely displayed any of this movement in this show.
It was a fun show. They were both great to watch perform.
Steve Martin and Martin Short were so great together. Both my and husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tthey did not disappoint!
Great show by master comics. Martin Short was the reason I attended and he did not disappoint!
If you know in advance that it is not a pure comedy show you will be fine. I thought it was just wonderful to see the other side of Steve and his banjo gig. They were funny and yes i would have loved if Steve put on his bow and arrow hat but he did not and it did not take away from a very good show - i would recommend this duo and would see them again
very good show and funny - they intermingled -Part of the show includes Steve playing the banjo. They are still very youthful.

Disappointing ... yes I knew there would be conversations but I also thought there would be comedy. Also, Steve Martin's interest is in Bluegrass .. I did not know there would be many Bluegrass songs. While I enjoy that music if I wanted to attend a Bluegrass concert I woudl have gone to a Bluegrass concert
Steve Martin and Martin Short are weill known entertainers and they should be. They were very funny, musical, talented and overall illustrated why they are both considered renaissance men, because together they have 100 years of performing experience and still can hold the attention of human beings in 2014 without any electronic devices, just good old fashioned entertainment. If you don't agree, well, I must say, Exccuuuuuuse ME!
....Steve and Martin's show was just that, a SHOW and a very good one at that. DO NOT expect them to do some sort of stand up routine or rehash their acts from the past. Also, you will have to enjoy or at least not mind great Blue Grass music as Steve is using this format to feature the Blue Grass band he's touring with. They're sound great, but it actually fills up a significant part of the 90 minute show. I don't know if the music was why, but quite a few people got up and left pretty expensive seats soon after the band started playing. Bottom line: Great informal comedy, banter between the two stars was hilarious and music was great. My wife and I loved it but kinda felt cheated by the amount of time used up by the music.
The two had chemistry. Although the act was not polished they were able to play off of their relationship and improvise a few very funny moments. Exemplary banjo playing. It was nice to see the intermission consist of solo by Short the solo by Martin.
A once in a life time opportunity to see two incredible performance icons (and friends) together for a unique show. What treat. Thank you Owen Hart Foundation!
Not at all what I had hoped. One interviewing the other? A TBS attempt at filling the spot left from Ellen's Somewhat Special Special, with some big name comedians, unfortunately fell very flat.
