Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

Strand Theater plus Steve Hackett = Bliss

by Stillnotthatguy on 9/30/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

This small theater, tucked away in Lakehurst, NJ, was the perfect place to witness what was easily the best Genesis experience I have ever had. I've seen the group Genesis several times - back in the day - but this is the first time I had the privilege of seeing and listening to Mr. Hackett on the lead guitar. As such, this was the first time I have ever witnessed these songs played with the intricacy and depth that Steve imbues them with. Just an absolute pleasure. Steve Hackett has not lost a step... truly an amazing show - not to be missed.

    Steve Hackett-Genesis Revisited

by Andrews312 on 9/30/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

Start to finish was a must for classic Genesis fans. Never thought I would here those songs live by a actual Genesis member. Always teased at Genesis shows with "medley" of classics. Supporting band was right on -with eyes closed sounded note for note the way I hoped it would. Steve looks exactly the same-felt like I was in a timewarp to 1977.

Steve Hackett came on stage and explained to the delight of all that "I still love the old music and I will continue to play it!" And that love shone through with every song. T two highlights of a complete show were "The Musical Box" the 5th song he played and "Supper's Ready" near the end of the set. Standing ovations to both. The final encore "Los Endos" left the audience wanting more and wishing he would play more. If you have the chance and liked Genesis in the 70's it's a must see show.

As good as it could be. Great venue, good sound , professional musicians and the music genesis fans love. You won't see these songs played this well by anyone else.

    Technically perfect

by Markolodeon on 9/29/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

This was a great show for me as my first Genesis show was in 1980 long after Steve left the band. The revisited experience really emphasizes how different the songs are live with Steve at the helm. Anyone a fan of 1971-77 era Genesis should definitely check out this show if possible. The only problem as in many things in life are comparisons and expectations. Genesis live has always been a front man focus experience. Setting aside the naysayers I loved Phil Collins energy and humor in those early 80's Genesis concerts, he really connected with the audience. Those concerts just blew me away, awesome songs and musicianship combined with endearing charisma and high energy. And that is really the shortfall of the revisited concert, there is no charismatic leader. The focus is all on Steve's playing and the songs which is perfectly ok, I just went in expecting more based on my Genesis live experience. Nad Sylvan while competent is just well, odd, not even a discount cousin of Pete or Phil. But maybe that was the whole idea, to keep the focus on Steve's playing. I still can't help but wonder what a Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) led concert would have been like - I much prefer his voice. Bottom line is just don't go in expecting a Genesis show and you'll be fine, it's a Steve Hackett concert. And Steve is a pretty subdued let the music speak for itself kinda guy. He's also one of the most distinctive and talented guitarists in rock history and this show was a great opportunity to hear where it all began for him.

    Steve Hackett delivers big time!!

by Bigfiggy on 9/29/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

I never saw the Steve Hackett Genesis configuration which I enjoy the most. The band he has assembled it very good and the fresh presentation of this era's Genesis songs, '72-'77, makes realize just what I missed. The setlist selections are great and I would go see the show again if it comes to this area again.

    Hackett guitar playing was superb

by JWiggy on 9/29/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

It was great to finally see Steve Hackett play Genesis. I have seen Genesis and Peter Gabriel many times. The song selection was great. He did at least 2 songs from Nursery Crimes thru Wind and Weathering. Great venue to see him in also. If you are an old Genesis fan. I highly recommend you check the show out.

    Steve Hackett was amazing

by Liberty4all on 9/29/13Strand Center for the Arts - Lakewood

Steve Hackett and his incredible band played two solid hours of Genesis music. The sound was unforgettable. From keyboards to drums with Steve on lead guitar one of the best shows I have witnessed in years. If you don't have tickets for the Keswick show and your a fan of Genesis, get them now. Steve and his band need to keep this music alive and they are doing a fantastic job. The Strand in Lakewood was also amazing.
