Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

    Astonishing

by TD on 4/6/24The Factory - St. Louis

Was like hearing Genesis for the first time. Astounding musicians playing incredible music. I would go every night if they would stay in one town instead of touring the world as they do 😊

Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisited Foxtrot

by HM on 4/6/24Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Amazing show. Steve Hackett's playing continues to be superb. The talent of the band is top notch. The Foxtrot performance was like going back in time to the heyday of Genesis with Peter Gabriel. A must see for any diehard Genesis fan.

Like Genesis of the 70’s revival

by carldowning on 4/6/24Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Having seen the original band twice in the 70s, I didn’t know what to expect from the show. I knew Hackett’s guitar work had been steady and even improving throughout the years but the musicians he put together for the show are individually extraordinary. Everyone matches the musicianship of the original band and even improved of course with contemporary technology, but also Hackett’s new works are highly significant. An outstanding show that any genesis fan should see.

Steve Hackett is #1 Guitarist and GREAT show

by BillA on 4/6/24Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Steve Hackett is my favorite guitarist and he surely did not disappoint! The new bass player and drummer are also terrific. Roger King and Rob Townsend were also flawless and incredible. Nad is still wearing ladies clothing, whatever man!? To prove my review points, I booked Steve's upcoming show in Tucson. I'm trying to NOT book the next night in Phoenix. It was great to have picked up the new live CD of this very concert done in Brighton last October. Also got his new album "The Circus and the Nightwhale". The show opened with two new tracks from Nightwhale. The small venue was terrific. Seven rows back and right in the center. Got some nice shots of the full truly amazing light show. Seeing the smiles, interactions and two well hidden groans from the tiniest mistake was truly amazing. Close up views of Steve's guitar solo's were incredible. His performance on Firth of Forth was beyond extraordinary, beautiful and amazing. Literally thought I was going to pass out but settled for sobs of joy! Screamed myself hoarse during applause along with all 1600 others in the room standing. So nice to have a life changing experience at age 72. If you ever get the chance to see Mr. Hackett..... GO!!! Next Friday, 4/12/2024 in Tucson I'm in row 1 center! I may bring smelling salts :<)

    A Near-religious Experience

by Craig on 4/6/24Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Hackett and band was fabulous! I’d not followed his music post ‘77 when he left the band. ‘Everyday’ is a great song. I was hearing a fusion sound that I really liked. Foxtrot start to finish was a treat. Of many ‘concert regrets’, having never seen Genesis in its heyday is one of them. This show made it all better! ‘Firth of Fifth’ encore delivered an Abraham Maslow ‘peak experience’ - spontaneous combustion of joy. 😊

    Amazing

The concert was amazing. Steve Hackett’s solo music was wonderful, but the highlight was Foxtrot. There’s nothing like seeing Super’s Ready live.

Great mix of old and new

by SteveO on 4/5/24The Factory - St. Louis

Last time I saw Steve Hackett was at the Ambassador Theatre for Trick of the Tail tour. Steve never stopped growing as artist and musician. The sound was pristine, the musicianship was top notch, and the set list offered a great balance of Steve’s career. All members had moment to shine seemlessly in the shows pacing. Audience was there for the music and not the selfies. Missed those crowds.

    Hackett is the best

by Mike S. on 4/5/24The Factory - St. Louis

Once again Steve Hackett and his band gave an outstanding performance. His guitar skills age like a great wine. So fluid! The new songs were good, the older Hackett originals contained a real King Crimson vibe, and the Genesis tunes were as great as expected. Highlights included Every Day, Time Table, Suppers Ready, and of course Firth of Fifth. I need to mention his incredible band and especially Jonas Reingold on bass guitar and 12 string. The older Steve and I get, the better he gets which makes me very happy! Can't wait to see him again. By the way the sound at the Factory in Chesterfield was outstanding and the crowd loved every minute of the show. Memorable night!

    It was a goood show . . .

by Rosey3 on 4/5/24The Factory - St. Louis

The Factory is a nice place to see shows. New, small, clean, & good sound. Steve Hackett was good. First half of the show was his solo work which wasn't well known by the audience. Most people were there to see Steve perform the Genesis Foxtrot album which drew large applause. He ended the show with "Los Endos"which was classic for Genesis to end their shows. It was well worth the money and I would see again.

    Near perfect venue.

by kski on 4/5/24The Factory - St. Louis

Hackett was phenomenal especially Los Endos and Back in NYC. My first show in this room and I rate it outstanding both for acoustics and all view lines. The worst seat in the house was better than good seats at most. 5 STARS

So much talent with all artists on stage. I only knew a couple songs, but still enjoyed how many instruments were used.

One of the best shows I have seen in a long time

by Kris on 4/5/24The Factory - St. Louis

First of all the Factory in Chesterfield, MO. Is a great new venue. Also walking distance from a hotel if you are from out of town. Plenty of parking. The show itself - what can you possibly say about Steve Hackett- the true guitar virtuoso and founding member of Genesis back in its greatness. Hearing and seeing the Genesis classic Foxtrot album in its entirety was epic!!

    As good as …. Always

by Martin on 3/29/24Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Recognizing none of us are getting younger, we were pleased to see Steve Hackett, Nad Sylvan and the band perform again. In fact I’m seeing him again on the same tour, a month after this event. They’re great. I think they are underrated. Every musician is talented in their own right, and together they are very tight and accurate. I do prefer the Genesis covers vs Steve’s solo album contributions. I think they do Genesis with a refreshed , cleaner, intricate sound that I prefer over the original. Much of Steve’s solo work is more surgical than musical. I just wish they had performed Spectral Mornings, and Nad singing the words that David Longdon had added to the original instrumental.
