STEVE EARLE IN CONCERT:

To hear country folk star Steve Earle live is to embark on an adventure through the musical heartland, hitting every stop along the way — from honky tonk and rockabilly to good old-fashioned Texas blues. His quirky but deeply emotional tunes are each a short story in and of themselves, carrying fans through the full gamut of emotions at his passionate live shows. On tour, he's a down-to-earth entertainer and he loves to please his fans with his hits.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

San Antonio-raised country singer Steve Earle left home as a teenager to literally follow in the footsteps of country legend Townes Van Zandt. He found a mentor in Van Zandt in Houston and spent the next few years bouncing between Texas and Nashville before releasing his now-classic debut Guitar Town. Personal struggles followed his career as his success grew, but he overcame them and prospered in their wake, releasing 13 studio albums and receiving three Grammys over the course of his career. He has become a sought after songwriter for movies and TV, and continues to take his act on the road with no signs of slowing down.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The concert was so cool! So talented. Steve sang all of the songs we had been waiting for. And he kept coming back and singing more!"

"Steve Earle was great. His band, great as well. He played nearly three hours including all the songs I would expect to hear. It was great!"

"This was better than the Stones. You may find this hard to believe, but it is true. Steve Earle is totally amazing. His talent is not to be believed. I was enthralled from the first minute he walked onto the stage until the last minute."

Steve Earle's acoustic show was amazing

by chesmom on 7/15/09Lakewood Theater - Dallas

Steve Earle's show at the Lakewood Theater 6/2009 was my first opportunity to hear Steve Earle live. It was a great show. The venue ambiance and Earle's acoustic delivery made for an intimate experience of Earle's beautiful and hard-hitting songs. Can't wait to catch him there again.

    Too much Townes

    by HJD1 on 7/15/09Lakewood Theater - Dallas

I saw Steve a year ago at the same place. That show was absolutely the best I have ever seen. This performance was all Townes Van Zandt and not enough of Steve Earle. The new CD " Townes " is very good. Steve Earle is a remarkable song writer him self and I personally was looking for a mixtire of the new with the old if you will. I was "moved " a year ago. I was not even "stirred" this year. Hopefully next time it will be a better mix .

Steve Earle plays homage to his friend

by scootman on 7/15/09Lakewood Theater - Dallas

I was a little out of the loop prior to this show so I had little idea that he would play an entire set of Townes tunes. It was a plesant surprise to realize what was taking place once I arrived. It was a very nice homeage to one of the finest songwriters of our time.

    Steve gets better and better

by Illinidodger on 7/15/09The Pageant - St Louis

An outstanding solo performance at a great venue. Steve did a wonderful job of mixing Townes Vant Zandt covers with his own music. Never a slow moment in the whole show.

Steve Earle at Atlanta Botanical Garden

by 34lorioi on 7/15/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Show was cancelled after 5 or so songs due to rain. No rescheduling of the show, no partial ticket refund, nothing! Really like Steve Earle but aggravated by the lack of consideration from Atlanta Botanical Garden.

    Steve Earle delivers

by TDiPod on 7/15/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Steve Earle did a fine job and mixed it up well. It wasn't all Townes Van Zandt material, but the performance and I guess the whole tour was clearly an homage to Townes. The opener was a solo guitarist named Joe Pug from Chicago - not bad. He's trying to get an early Dylan thing going, right down to the hair do.

Steve Earle is one of a kind!

by Karen30 on 7/15/09The Pageant - St Louis

I saw Steve Earle at the Pageant in St. Louis, Mo. for the first time. The sound system there is one of the best. Steve sounded fantastic! It was the best show I've seen in awhile. Steve puts on a great show. I'm so glad I went. I bought my tickets really early so I could get a great seat but no need to. There's not a bad seat in the house. Great venue, great music.

    THE MAESTRO

by Bushy on 7/15/09Vic Theatre - Chicago

Steve Earle is one of the best singer-songwriters we are fortunate to experience live. This show was special becuase the Park west is a terrific venue that brought out a nostalgic side to stev-- he remineced about his first tmes in chicago and at the PW. it was a fitting venue, then, for a show dedicated to his "teacher", another clasisic singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. I have seen Steve perform about 6 or so time, and this was one of my favorites.

    Straight Finger Pickin Brilliance

by JamesEStudios on 7/15/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

At the beginning of the year I saw Steve Earle play in Philly with my cousin and that show was an amazing first-time experience. Now I have the same amount of albums between Steve and Townes. Townes Van Zandt's music resonated with me on a deep level much the same as the opening act Joe Pugg. Joe Pugg was a mind-blowing opening act that Townes would have approved of. The Botanical Gardens venue was very relaxed, well run, utterly different setting than a traditional indoor concert. The Atlanta sky held off its downpour late into Steve's second set as he played an amazing range with brilliant transitions and finger-picked his way into the eternal memory of those seated on the green. Even though the show had to stop because of rainstorms, it was still a perfect show to celebrate one's 22nd birthday.

    Started out great

by Brewer on 7/15/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

The venue was wonderful; nice lawn, flowers, wine. Although it was just Steve and his guitar on stage, there might as well been a band behind him. He played and sang great, chatted with the audience, told stories. My friends that attended with me didn't know Steve's music well but came away fans. And all this after only about 8 songs or so. You see, although we hoped the clouds would keep passing over, suddenly it poured. And poured. And poured. So the concert was cut short. My party (thank goodness for cell phones) managed to regroup in the big hall (where they were still serving) to ride out the rain. But finally, the word came that the concert was over. Quite disappointing after so many years waiting to see Steve in concert again, but what can you do. Would love to see him come back to the same venue--although I might check the weather before attending.

Steve Earle - A Profile in Courage

by Nanceelee on 7/15/09The National - Richmond

Steve Earle has captured my respect and admiration for the courage in which he continues to remind his audiences of our imperfections with a nudge to seek that part of ourselves that represents truth and death to self for the betterment of others and in the end ourselves. With a son fomerly in the 82nd Airborne, veteran of the Afghanistan War, and now serving time in Fort Leavenworth for charges of which he is innocent and watching the govenment repeatedly slow the wheels of justice, Steve's music resonates with me now more than ever. This was my first opportunity to see Steve live from the first row which was truly a gift in itself. I remained on the edge of my seat in my mind as he brought "Townes" to life and reminded us from selected tunes from older recordings that things may appear promising, but we are not where we need to be. He is the voice of generations and I am forever indebted to the courage he demonstrates in his music regardless of the price he has or may pay. See Steve whenever you can. Listen and learn.

Steve Earle rocks the Atl Botanical Garden

by Kalo on 7/15/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

The opening musician and Earle himself entertained a lawn full of people of all ages. Unfortunately heavy rain came shortly after he got started so many folks left. It was a great show- despite the rain!

A Political Rally or a Concert?

by Beaverdam on 7/15/09The National - Richmond

I was dissapointed by Steve Earle, after I had looked forward to the concert fro weeks. The concert was overshadowed by political talk between almost every two songs. At the end of the concert "Copperhead Road" was played almost begrudgingly. I would still go back to the National; however, it is a great venue!

    Great location

by katschap on 7/15/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Steve Earle was great, and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens was a nice, intimate setting - it rained unfortunately so the concert got cut short, but that's just one of the drawbacks of an outdoor venue. Steve Earle played until the sky literally fell - of course his little tent overhead helped him do that. Overall the venue was great and the concert very enjoyable.

    Steve Good -- Rain Bad

by Bikedewd on 7/14/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Well....Steve played for almost 1 hour until the rain set in......then it was over. Wished he could have squeezed in a few more of his classics before the deluge, but it was great while it lasted.

Steve Earle was great until it rained!

by kimsuega on 7/14/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

We have know Steve for many years and couldn't wait to see his new show. Went to the Botanical Gardens and sat on a blanket and had wine and enjoyed 30-45 minutes of Steve's show. Then the bottom dropped out and it poured and stormed for hours. The show was cancelled due to weather. We swore to no more outdoor shows. But then got McCartney tickets for Piedmont Park! Will keep our fingers crossed!

    Steve Earle

by KFlanny on 7/14/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Steve was AWESOME, as usual. Unfortunately, the show was rained out. This sucks even more because I bought the ticket b/c it said "rain or shine", and because Joe Pugg was a big let down. He was very generic and his voice was quite obviously a Bob Dylan Ripoff. This coupled with the fact that he played forever making for less of steve since the show got rained out, made things less than stellar. You can imagine how frustrated I was when I was dancing in the rain to "I Feel Alright" only to be told after that song that "the gear was getting wet" so they were stopping the show. Real drag. As I said before, however, Steve was awesome. I recommend him highly. As for the venue and/or ticket master? Not sure which one misled with the rain or shine statement, but whoever it was, I would not recommend them.

Fun until the show was rained out

by Kerryf on 7/14/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

The first 45 minutes of the show were awesome until a torrential downpour caused it to be canceled. Hoping he returns soon.
