About

Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.

Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.

The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.

Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.

In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.

In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.

By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.

A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

It felt like Wayne was with us.

by CMA on 3/1/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

Words cannot express the emotions and feelings that I was overcome with during the Static X set of the Machine Killer tour in Grand Rapids MI. Lines Of Loyalty, Dope, and SevenDust were all amazing and 100% on point with great sets and killer vibes. But the Static X set was something more! It truly felt like Wayne was there with us and made for an unforgettable evil disco experience. The Xero meet and greet Q&A after the show was equally extraordinary and unforgettable with several extra special VIPs in attendance, and many great Wayne stories were shared. This experience will truly carry a special place in soul for eternity. THANK YOU

    Fun time by all

by Great pit at Static X on 2/29/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

Had a great time because Rockso the Pit Clown was there getting the entire crowd involved. The only issue is I believe they may have either over sold or people from the mezzanine came down as the floor was very crowded.

We had the best time at the Sevendust/Static-X show! The bands were beyond some of the greatest I've seen. The venue and staff were extremely top notch. I highly recommend seeing these guys on their 2024 tour. We will most definitely be attending concerts at The Sylvee many more times in the near future!

    Evil Disco Night!!!

by BenJAMMIN' on 2/27/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

We saw Lines of Loyalty/Dope/Sevendust/Static X at 20 Monroe LIVE, and had an awesome night! We missed LoL, but caught Dope which was a great opener and got the crowd going. Sevendust showed they can bring the house down with their hard hitting songs like "Denial"and did a great mix of songs from their catalog of albums. Static X really brought the house down with their mix of synthesized beats and metal. Their show was really high energy and got the crowd moving, they also had huge costumes that came out on stage and fog bubble machines that added to the show. In all I was super impressed with the whole show, all the bands were great, and it shows they all enjoy touring together. Crowd interaction and love for the younger gen concert goers was apparent. This will be one of my favorite concerts that I will continue to remember when the songs come on that were sung. I wish Wayne was there but I feel he was in spirit for sure as the energy in Grand Rapids was through the roof. I brought my 16 and 9 year old, and we sat up on the right side of the balcony in seats: 226-228. Any further in and it would have been hard to see the stage as from 226 the speakers covered the drummers. A+ concert in all, we all left happy and super glad we all went!!!

by Fan666 on 2/26/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

Static-x put on a hell of a show. Almost all of the songs they played were off their first 2 albums. I didn't care for the bands they toured with though.

Great show. Drink prices were pretty extreme though.

by Jason on 2/26/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

I don’t listen to a whole lot of metal, however, I thoroughly enjoyed three out of the four bands and the shows they put on. Wasn’t super impressed by Lines of Loyalty, but it didn’t make my experience any worse. The only problem I had was the fact that my first drink was $27. I understand that drink prices at concerts are always higher, but almost $30 for one drink is outrageous. I can’t think of any justification for that kind of price gouging.

    Awesome

by Shry on 2/26/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

Loved it the only real issue was it took almost an hour to set up between sevendust and static x, seems like a venue issue not a band issue

    Personal favorite show

by Frank M. on 2/19/24The Paramount - Huntington

The show was absolutely amazing. The bands were amazing and the people running everything were amazing. I’ve been to quite a few shows but this one really takes the cake and sets the bar higher than I could’ve ever expected. The show was perfect to my eyes and ears. Everything ran smoothly to my perspective and the employees running the merch booth and bar were really nice and very friendly. It was the perfect experience for any show I could have seen and I wish to be able to experience that show again.
