About

Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.

Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.

The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.

Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.

In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.

In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.

By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.

A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Catch Static-X on tour in a city near you.

  • Sevendust/Static X/Dope

by Doug on 5/13/24Knitting Factory - Spokane - SpokaneRating: 5 out of 5

Really great show! I’ve been a dedicated Sevendust fan since 98 and have seen them several times. They never disappoint and change up their live show nicely so as to deliver new and unexpected surprises live. Static X has also gotten better with age. Saw them for the 2nd time that night. They deliver a very potent live experience and I thoroughly enjoyed their set. I would have loved for Dope to have had more stage time. They’re great live and it was awesome to finally see them. All in all it was a great show by some veteran bands that I dig. 5 stars!!

If you have doubts about Static-X without Wayne, you should not. This is an honest tribute to Wayne and continuing his legacy. I had the privilege of sitting with Xero this time and had a mind-blowing conversation that speaks volumes to his character as a person. He was humble and well-spoken. I have watched this band twice now (without Wayne) and truly believe they are recapturing the spirit of Static-X. Make no mistake I am a long-time fan of the band and have seen them perform with Wayne. I truly believe Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda, Ken Jay, and Xero are doing the right thing and bringing you the experience you never thought you would see again. This is still the original line up minus Wayne. I asked Xero if they were going to continue on past Project Regeneration Volume 2 and he replied with,"What does that look like and are you ready for it?"I did not have the answer then, but a couple days have gone by and with a lot of thought my answer is,"Yes". You already started with songs like Otsego Placebo. I miss Wayne as much as any Static-X fan, he made a choice in life that was unfortunate and sad. I am also a fan of the entire band and I have done the VIP experience twice with them now. They are all just happy to play the music that they helped create. This is my opinion; Xero is not Wayne and Xero said humbly he's just good enough and I have to disagree with him. To put on a mask and hide your identity so you can bring the people the music they love without trying to take the spotlight from your longtime friend plus pay tribute to him every concert is a true friend. Xero does his best to capture the sound of Wayne and does a great job. I will always be a fan of this band new and old. The concerts keep getting better. Thank you for the experience and memories.

  • Static-X never disappoints

by William on 5/13/24Knitting Factory - Spokane - SpokaneRating: 4 out of 5

Bought VIP months in advance to make sure I wouldn't miss the show. Arrived in time to catch Dope playing. Seven Dust was amazing and Static-X totally kicked ass. M&G was cool and the guys were awesome. The venue leaves a lot to be desired. The set-up is poor and the place is dirty but at least the staff is helpful. Sound quality is pretty good. I would like to see a VIP only seating area upstairs with bar access to better see the show. Paying three times the price than a regular ticket should come with a few more perks.

by Jay Stitch on 5/12/24Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Ive lived in Calgary for many years now and have never been to the Grey Eagle Casino. Absolutely beautiful venue. Tons of space, excellent sound, tons of parking, well layed out drink area. It was my daughters first concert and will now be a bench mark for future shows.

Good to see some bands I loved when I was a teen! Would have liked to be closer to experience it better but couldn’t get tickets closer up. We already paid for vip tickets to sick new world which was a disaster. So I’m glad I went to this side show cause I didn’t see them at SNW

  • Phenomenal

by Curious One on 4/29/24Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I’ve been to in awhile! All of the bands shared their raw passion and energy, with the audience doing the same! This concert was an experience I’ll never forget🥰 The venue itself was set up so all can see, the bar lines weren’t too long, the bathrooms were clean and the attendant was a nice lady 😊 the sound system was a little off but it didn’t distract from the performances. Overall would go back!

  • Energetic

Static-X was very energetic and a great way to end the concert. Dope and Sevendust performances were excellent.

  • Static X Kicked ass!

by CurtBrek on 3/7/24The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Sylvee was a great venue! All the bands really were good. Dope started it out! They did not disappoint! DMF Die was awesome and got the crowd pumped up for the rest of the night! Sevendust is a bit lighter than what I usually listen to for my go to music. But they were really good. They sounded great and were extremely professional. They have been around a long time and were true musicians. They played before Static X who is who I wanted to see. Their music is an go to for me! And they did not disappoint! They also provided an awesome performance and a great experience. The only other time I saw them Wayne was still alive. So I was not sure what to expect other than I knew I was going to hear some really great tunes! But the show was impressive! It was one of the best shows I ever saw. Great work to all the bands! So many great songs played. Since they were in Wisconsin I knew we would hear Wis Death Trip for sure. But Bled For Days, Terminator Oscillator, and Black and White were also some of my favorites. And to top off the night with Push It, that was awesome. All the bands did a great job and it was a great experience!
