Summit Music Hall
by Jace on 5/31/22Summit - DenverRating: 5 out of 5The layout was simple and close together. General admission tickets had leeway on the entire floor, all the way up to the stage. Higher priced tickets will give a seat on the catwalk above. I appreciate the smaller venue as the sound was easily felt, especially during bass-heavy portions. If the press of the crowd becomes a bit much, open areas on the side offer some reprieve. Same goes for the bar, positioned at the entrance or the rear of the the music hall with a decent view of the stage.
Some oddities regarding the music goers might be helpful to mention. When mosh-pits broke out, the sold-out crowd proved to lack some etiquette and understanding. After several people had fallen in a pile on the floor, it took longer than expected for others to assist in pulling them back to their feet. Also, of the patrons who secured a spot standing between the middle of the floor and the front of the stage, a few seemed taken aback at the very possibility of a mosh pit. Yet they maintained that location while complaining and snapping at people around them.
As far as the performance, the bands delivered: Smash into Pieces, Fame on Fire, Red, and Starset. The smaller stage meant less time was typically spent on props. Although, Starset added some fun visuals with outfitted light arrangements and lasers. The variety of performances added a nice dynamic. After a bit of flowing vocals, gravelly screams made for some nice variety.
Looking back, I have a new favorite style of venue. Arena-style concerts can be fun, but open floor venues, especially these smaller ones, have a nice flavor to them.
