A Great Show for Star Trek Aficionados

by VenturaBreeze on 4/6/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

It's so hard to rate this show. If you're a Trekkie and have watched all the movies and all the TV shows, this show will bring back sentimental memories that bring you to tears with the mix of the music, lights and video montage they put together... but that's only because you're emotionally invested in this over the span of 50 years. For an outsider, this could be one of the most boring things to ever have to sit through. You have to know the characters, you have to know the music, you have to have an appreciation for all things Trek. If that's you, then this is a real treat to enjoy!

    Absorbing, stunning, magical

by funfastonelover on 4/5/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Excellent, brilliant, outstanding! This is a Star Trek lover's dream. I took my wife (not a fan) and two little children (both fans at 6 & 9). We really enjoyed the Pantages (first time there) Theater. The music was fantastic. We got to see THE original Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) as well as the composers of the music that was on show during the event. Dennis McCarthy's directing of the "Generations" theme was powerful. And for me, the highlight of the night was seeing Jay Chattaway take the lead for his "Inner Light Suite" which was back-dropped by a perfect display of family events that have been a part of the series for 50 years. Very moving, very touching. My 9yr old said at the end, "I can't wait to watch this again next year". If only this was an annual event. The only complaint I have is that it ended, when there was still so much more music left to enjoy :)

    I love Star Trek

by jkimoc on 4/5/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I love Star Trek, and it was great to celebrate 50 years watching the orchestra play live while watching clips and scenes from Star Trek shows and movies. I especially enjoyed the part where the solo flutist was playing and the screen showed scenes from Star Trek TNG and Captain Jean Luc Picard. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is because I don't like the way that the show was compartmentalized. Star Trek was so much more than space exploration, and I think they did delve into it. But they spent a lot time on scenes that were epic, but not central to the show. There was so much missing! And the scenes and clips that were chosen were not necessarily the greatest and the best. I think the show celebrated the quirky, funny parts... but there were so many parts that explored humanity, human nature, and all the greatest and worst parts of both. There could have been so much more about all of that. It just missed a certain something. I don't think a Star Trek lover made the show. I think someone who understood something about it did, but not necessarily someone who was passionate about it.

    A Genuine Joy for Fans

by RedshirtBlues on 4/5/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

My brother and I grew up watching the original Star Trek and the Next Generation and they, along with the films, formed a big part of our early lives. As middle-aged men, this concert not only brought back great memories but introduced us to some of the moments we'd missed in the series' we didn't follow -- Enterprise and Voyager, for example. I want to stress this is not merely a concert but a sort of multimedia experience in which clips from all the series and films are shown in a thematic way, both to showcase the high points of the various series and the particular styles of music used in them -- there is, for example, a whole sequence of Klingon-themed music, as well as the familiar themes used in Trek 1 and Trek 2. The conducting of the orchestra was so precise that I often forgot the music I was hearing was live and not part of the soundtracks in question. The only real drawback is that 2 1/2 hours is perhaps a little long, but that's debatable. In short, this is an experience every Star Trek fan should have. The tickets aren't cheap but the memories are priceless.

Incredible collection of music from Star Trek...

by Marry80 on 4/5/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The music is epic! I saw this in Hollywood and loved every moment. My only critique is the structure; I feel like people wanted the music to fit the images they were seeing. I would have done a chronological look through the TV shows and Films with some footage from each; I think people not familiar with Star Trek would have gotten more out of it that way too... It was a little jarring to hear the themes from Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space Nine played but with no footage from those shows - this was across the board with all the music. As a Trek fan, I felt there was more iconic footage/scenes that could have been used that would have been more powerful and summed up Star Trek better than what was used. I think the voice over by Michael Dorn could have been a little tighter and more profound. That being said, that's my ONLY critique, once I got past that, I just sat back and listened to the music which was like nothing else! Also being in Hollywood many of the composers were their to conduct their own music; Dennis McCarthy's Overture from Star Trek: Generations and Jay Chattaway's 'The Inner Light' Suite. RIP: Jerry Goldsmith

    Nostalgic and Inspirational

by cblank on 4/5/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I generally thought the event was put together well and the music fantastic. I thought they weren't going to,play the original Star Trek theme, but they did as a finale which was very fitting. Wish they had more "Scottyisms" and more of Sulu, Uhura, and Chekov. Loved Spock footage.

I was not sure what to expect going in. Were they going to play scenes with the music alongside? They did so much more. The production quality was amazing.

    Good Show

by LickMe on 4/4/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The Star Trek Ultimate Voyage video montage and live concert was well produced and executed flawlessly. I highly recommend this show for any Star Trek fan. I did not rate the performance as a 5 since the show delivered what I expected without any “Wow …That was amazing” moments.

    My life through Star Trek

by FriendofQ on 4/4/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The music was impressive; the TV/film clips well chosen around several themes. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was fun to reminisce through the last 50 years and say, "I remember that..." It was an added bonus to have the composers guest as conductors for their own compositions. Nichele Nichols (Uhura) was there in all her glory and I was able to take a photo. If it's coming your way and you're a fan of the franchise, go see it. Worthwhile! I didn't see much of 7 or 9, though : (

    Could Have Been Much Better

by Snootbull on 4/4/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The orchestra was wonderful (could have been a bit louder) - hearing the music live was the highlight of the evening. Whom ever put the clips together should have had some wheaties that morning because the first 15 minutes of narration and clips were very boring. After that the clips were supposedly put in categories by year but the pacing was very slow and some stills/clips were shown twice. Evening was a Christmas present for my husband and he enjoyed it, so guess that is what really matters?

A must see for all Trekkies!

by CanimVenaticorum on 4/4/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Any seat in the house had a great view of this. The movie screen was large with the full orchestra belting out the musical score onstage. Brought back so many feelings and was very well done.

Beyond amazing. Visually and of course musically stunning. All fans would love this - so many memories from the various series and films. The best part was that VIPs got behind the scenes access and Q and A with the composers!

    Do not buy the CD

by ElDsl on 4/4/16Pantages - Los Angeles

I'm a trekkie, so I am bound to like it. I'd go again if I can. But, I must point out as others have, that the video can be distracting. There's no clear theme to it. I wished the orchestra was bigger and more powerful. Now to the title of my reivew. Yeah, don't spend $40 on the program and CD combo. The orchestra, particularly the trumpet section, is pretty bad. Messing up the important high notes here and there. You can tell from the very first track.

It really was the "Ultimate Voyage"

by CWeddell408 on 4/4/16San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

This show is captivating from beginning to end. The music was superb, and the accompanying videos were well selected. My son and I have been Trekkies for decades, and this show absolutely surpassed our expectations. I thought it was great how they managed to merge all of the different series and movies into one event so seamlessly.

    Awesome experience

by Anonymous on 4/4/16Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

This was my first experience with seeing a live orchestra and video play along. My girlfriend and I were not disappointed. The musicians did a fantastic job. I would recommend this show to anyone who is a fan of movie/TV music.
